SCB Steelers’ Quick Hitters: The “Club and Tub”Edition

Good Morning Steelers’ Fans!

When you look across the NFL landscape right now, the Pittsburgh Steelers are actually pretty healthy compared to other teams. Cam Sutton finally returned to practice today and James Conner told the Trib’s Chris Adamski that he plans to play on Sunday against Atlanta. Still struggling to get back on the field however are guys like Anthony Chickillo who is dealing with a hip injury and Senquez Golson who is still unable to get back on the field either. The old saying in NFL circles is that as a player, you can’t make the club if you’re in the tub. Chickillo is a guy who cannot afford to miss too much time especially after his main competition, Arthur Moats, had a monstrous game against the Giants. Bottom line is that there are few players that can afford to miss time.

Martavis Bryant did indeed return to practice yesterday for the first time and admitted he had some rust to knock off. I don’t think it will take too long to be honest.

The AFC North went unbeaten in the first week of the preseason. No, I don’t expect that to happen once the regular season opens. Mainly because the Steelers and Browns play each other.

I saw several outlets comment on how well the healthy rookies played Friday night. While all did some nice things, I think there were also some concerns. I already discussed Dobbs… JuJu Smith-Schuster had a nice run and a reception but he has to be more aware of what he’s doing. The head-first launch that saw him get concussed is something he just can’t do. Brian Allen, the athletic defensive back from Utah also struggled in my opinion.

Tweet of the Day… Case in point!

Josh Dobbs started poorly and bounced back nicely Friday night but it won’t get any easier. Dobbs will need to show growth over the next three preseason games. He needs to display the ability to work through his progressions and stay patient. We need to also remember this is a rookie. To expect too much too soon just isn’t fair.

Terrell Watson had 44 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries Friday night and I think he deserves a shot to work with the top offensive unit. Much of the that will depend on whether or not Conner plays but at the very least, Watson needs a chance and if he doesn’t succeed then so be it.

Have a magnificent Monday Steeler Nation!
