Hey Steelers Fans. Welcome to Monday.

The Kickoff

No one would ever confuse late February with football season but you could understand if one did. The focus of the entire NFL shifts to Indianapolis this week for the annual NFL Combine. Perhaps of importance is that we will hear the first public comments from General Manager Omar Khan since the season ended in early January. You will recall that at this event last year, Khan told the media that he had full faith in Quarterback Kenny Pickett after the second-year player had a difficult season. Not long after Khan traded the former first round pick after he chose not to compete against Russell Wilson. I don’t believe we will get any tidbits like that but I also have to think that he will be asked about “change.” Both Mike Tomlin and Art Rooney II talked about the need for it yet only two assistant coaching changes were made. This was far from the change that most fans wanted to see. In other words, don’t hold your breath when he fields questions this week.

The Perils of Social Media

I do my very best to give you accurate information. I base my opinions on what I know and what past things have occurred in similar situations. What I don’t do is take to social media and spew rumors of which, I have zero information to go on. After I saw the same account tweeting out completely opposite stories I was compelled to write this.

Draft Work

Cliff is doing a terrific job evaluating many of the top targets the Steelers may have in April. Here is his latest – on Michigan defensive lineman Kenneth Grant.

Random Reads

I would not be surprised to hear the Steelers linked with several different trade rumors throughout the week. The Combine is as much about teams talking current players as it is evaluating the new ones… I do not think Minkah Fitzpatrick is going to be traded. The Steelers would be creating yet another position they’d need to address… Over The Cap reports that the Steelers will have around $60 million in cap space when the new year begins March 12th. There are still several more candidates to be cut too like Cordarrelle Patterson and possibly Larry Ogunjobi… I just don’t see Najee Harris coming back. He doesn’t fit Arthur Smith’s offense and they desperately need home run hitters… I think the Steelers will look hard at guards. Isaac Seumalo isn’t getting any younger and I’m not sure Mason McCormick is 100% ready despite tons of action in his rookie season.
