Hey Steelers Fans! Welcome to Wednesday.
The Kickoff
Do you agree with Ryan Clark? The former Steeler and Super Bowl Champion had some harsh critiques of Omar Khan and the Steelers for the way they’ve handled the quarterback situation and Aaron Rodgers. There’s much that I agree with Clark and most of you know this. I’ve written very much the same things that he said yesterday. Khan and the Steelers have allowed themselves to be ‘held hostage’ by Aaron Rodgers unless there’s some sort of agreement in place that we are unaware of… But even that isn’t a good look. With the Draft eight days out, the Steelers would need to know if Rodgers is going to be their QB or not. No Omar Khan and Mike Tomlin would give us the party line that Rodgers’ situation doesn’t change their approach to the Draft. To that I say, (cough) Bull shit (cough). To me, its’ the difference between using a first or third rounder (they currently have no second) on a QB versus knowing Rodgers will be here and waiting until Day Three to select a quarterback. The heart of the matter here is simple; the Steelers have not handled the QB issue well at all.
The Inside Blitz
My latest short form podcast, the SCB Steelers Inside Blitz presented by DEK Roofing Inc is available. I had some thoughts on the QB I would take in this Draft given the circumstances… The trade down possibility… And retiring jerseys of guys who have won nothing.
The Podcast
Our weekly, Thursday night show will air as usual on Thursday night at 10pmET. This week we narrow down the guys that we like the most and the guys we think the Steelers will actually target. Those items and more!! Don’t miss it!
The Clues…
There are always indicators of who the Steelers may draft in the first round and beyond. For example, since Khan became the GM, the team has selected guys that made personal visits leading up to the draft with their first selection. Based on Dane Brugler’s (The Athletic) rankings, these guys all visited and are in his top 30.
- Texas A&M edge Shemar Stewart (No. 9)
- Texas wide receiver Matthew Golden (15)
- Oregon defensive tackle Derrick Harmon (16)
- South Carolina safety Nick Emmanwori (17)
- North Carolina running back Omarion Hampton (29)
Of those five, the only Pro Day attended by Mike Tomlin was that of Matthew Golden. Do with that what you will. Remember though, he didn’t attend Troy Fautanu’s Pro Day either.

Congratulations to the Western Michigan University Men’s Hockey Team! National Champions!! That is not something I’ve ever been able to say as a student or as an alum from there… I don’t see T.J. Watt taking anything less than $40 million per season. If they want him to be a ‘one helmet’ guy then they’ll have to pay it… The Steelers have made another coaching hire and it’s once again filled with nepotism as Danny Smith’s son comes over from Duquesne University. I swear if you have anyone currently on staff there then you’re guaranteed a job… Retiring Shedeur Sanders’ jersey at Colorado is one of the dumber things I’ve heard of… Kudos to one of my favorite bands, Cross Canadian Ragweed on their incredible reunion weekend at Oklahoma State. They sold out the football stadium on four straight nights. Well done Boys from Oklahoma!
