Hey Steelers Fans. Welcome to Sunday.

The Kickoff

No, I do not know who the Pittsburgh Steelers are drafting in Round one Thursday night. Yes, I feel like I have a pretty good idea of who it might be as I’ve started to narrow things down. Honestly? That really doesn’t mean much because Mike McCarthy isn’t Mike Tomlin. While Omar Khan, Andy Weidl and company are pretty much the same, just having McCarthy in as the head coach has already seen some different things. Ian did a really nice breakdown of McCarthy’s draft history as a head coach and its worth taking a look at. Combined with this knowledge, the Steelers’ personal visits, Pro Day attendance etc, I feel like I have a decent grasp on who they are looking to select Thursday night. I’m not going to spoil it just yet however.

In case you missed it, Episode 469 of the SCB Steelers Podcast presented by DEK Roofing Inc is available! We discussed the top offensive talent for this year’s Draft and many other things as well! Check it out!

Mocking

I’m not a huge fan of mock drafts but they do serve a purpose. One, many people can’t get enough of them and two, the help me isolate where guys seem to be trending and why. I published version two of my mock draft last week and I’m working on Final version for Draft day.

Big Move for the Bengals

Dexter Lawrence requested a trade from the New York Giants recently and his wish was granted. Whether Cincinnati was his preferred choice or not we do not know but that’s where he’s headed. The Bengals are trading their first round pick (#10 overall) to the G-Men for Lawrence. It’s assumed that he will get a new deal from the Bengals. As Steelers’ fans, we knew well that Cincy has been a mess on defense so this makes sense. Dig a little deeper however and you can ask whether they paid too steep a price. Lawrence has been a standout defensive linemen – no doubt about it – but he declined in 2025. He will also turn 29 years old this fall. If Lawrence returns to form, then the trade will clearly have been worth it. If he doesn’t? Yikes.

Random Reads

The coming World Cup and it’s outrageous prices fall in line with pretty much every other major sporting event. Regular folks can no longer attend. The only way we get a handle on these things is to stop attending but that hasn’t happened and I doubt it will… I am so glad that my team doesn’t change uniforms every season. I know why teams do it but I’m grateful the Steelers have largely resisted it… I get the feeling that many fans are content with what we have on the defensive line. I still think adding more depth is crucial in this draft… I don’t yet know what Omar Khan will do next week but I get the feeling something out of nowhere is coming. We shall see…
