Hey Steelers Fans. Welcome to Monday!

The Kickoff

In committee, the ‘Tush Push’ may be headed for its end. The formal vote won’t take place until Tuesday but the controversial play could be banned. The Green Bay Packers initiated the conversation citing player safety concerns and slowing the pace of play. While those may in fact be important, I also believe the play is not a “football” play. It’s rugby. Assisting a player in the manner that teams do just is not football in my opinion. The play also favors the offense (what else is new?) and takes away game-planning and creativity. 24 of the 32 teams have to vote in favor of the ban and I think it has a shot.

Rodgers and Tomlin

“It was really good to spend some time together and get to know each other more intimately.” Believe it or not, that is not a quote from “The Bachelor.” It’s a quote from Mike Tomlin. Speaking from the Spring Meeting in Florida, Tomlin was speaking of the day that Aaron Rodgers spent on the South Side. I’m not going to spend any more time on this than I already have because I’m tired of it and it’s nauseating. Make a decision Aaron so our head coach doesn’t sound like he’s on “Love Connection.”

The Draft

We are just over three weeks out from the NFL Draft and if someone tells you they know who the Steelers are taking in round one then they’re full of crap. Things will certainly come more into focus the closer we get but as of right now it’s wide open. Defensive lineman feels like the safest bet but this is also a really deep DL class. I would be stunned if the Steelers don’t double up at that position in this draft but then again… we just don’t know where the focus in round one is and keep in mind that they often love the “best player available” rather than always going with the position of need.

The Latest Podcast

In case you missed it, episode 414 of the SCB Steelers Podcast presented by DEK Roofing Inc is available. Our major focus was the failure of the organization to find the next franchise QB. We also discussed a lot more as usual!

Thoughts on T.J. Watt

Yesterday I put together some thoughts on what both T.J. Watt and the Steelers are facing this offseason. In short, Watt has to see the writing on the wall in terms of his chances of getting to a Super Bowl in Pittsburgh while at the same time, the Steelers seemed poised to give him a monster contract extension despite turning 31 this coming season.

Random Reads

NYJ Head Coach Aaron Glenn said this week that they believe they can get more out of Justin Fields. If they do, then that will be one Hell of an indictment against the Steelers’ Coaching Staff… Remember when Art Rooney II said he’d like to re-sign either Russell Wilson or Justin Fields? Time flies doesn’t it… Smoke. Get ready for a lot of it in the next three weeks as social media accounts and media outlets try to get all of us to believe one rumor over the other. It’s that time of year… Both Omar Khan and Art Rooney II are expected to speak at this week’s meetings… Roger Goodell is looking to move Sunday games to Thursday night with just three weeks notice. Another big middle finger to the fans who attend the games.
