Hey Steelers Fans. Welcome to Thursday.
The Kickoff
HBO is now airing a new documentary about former Steelers’ star Kordell Stewart. Often known as “Slash” during his earlier days in Pittsburgh, he was a fan favorite because he played so many positions. He was often listed as a WR/KR/PR/QB etc so the name “Slash” was born. Stewart was a quarterback at heart though and that’s where he wanted to be. He ultimately got there and led the Steelers to two AFC Title Games. By 2002, he was on his way out while Tommy Maddox became the new starter. As anyone in Pittsburgh can tell you, being the quarterback of the Steelers is the most difficult job in the city. Being the QB while also being black was even tougher. Making matters worse was that an ugly rumor spread like wildfire about Stewart. The documentary goes into detail about the rumor and how Slash dealt with it. I highly recommend it especially for those who were involved in spreading the rumor.
Brand New Show
Episode 496 of the SCB Steelers Podcast presented by DEK Roofing Inc airs LIVE tonight at 10pmET. We’ll re-cap the win over the Saints and look ahead to the Browns. We’ll also discuss whether the Steelers should be upgrading or not with the trade deadline approaching.
Injury News
Ben Skowronek was a limited participant in practice yesterday. He’s missed the last two games with a calf injury. Obviously at this point in the week his participation means very little but it is encouraging. The Special Teams unit desperately need him back. Alex Highsmith was also a limited participant Wednesday with a groin problem. Keep an eye on this because Highsmith’s health issues have almost always been related to soft tissue injuries. DeShon Elliott only played a handful of snaps last week. I get the sense that this is about ‘ramping up’ each week from what was a really bad injury.
Well?
Steelers’ Mouthpiece and longtime Writer for the Post-Gazette Gerry Dulac made some comments about George Pickens yesterday. He stated, “You don’t know even half the story of Pickens’ issues here. The Cowboys are already finding out. Let’s see how long he lasts there.” So what is the other half of the story? If you are going to claim to know something then say it. Otherwise keep it to yourself.
Renegade
Apparently the Browns have been practicing with ‘Renegade‘ blaring in the background all week. This isn’t the first time a team has done this. Does it make a difference? Maybe??? To me, when Renegade comes on it isn’t even so much about the music, it’s about the overall reaction of the crowd and the situation the team is in at the moment. Hey, whatever works I guess.

I’m glad the rivalry with Cleveland is back. Got kind of boring during all those years of already knowing the outcome of games… Very curious times in Baltimore right now with Lamar Jackson. Big one for them in Buffalo Sunday… I will absolutely be watching the new Godzilla movie that comes out in November. If you didn’t see ‘Godzilla Minus One’ its easily the best Godzilla movie ever made… If the Steelers are going to go out and get a WR before the deadline, it has to be a good who excels at getting off the line and beating man coverage… Congrats to the Milwaukee Brewers and their fans. That’s a long time to wait for a first title… Steelers’ fans can relate though…
