Home Steelers 2015 Season Brandon Boykin not Starting for Steelers not a Reason to Panic

Brandon Boykin not Starting for Steelers not a Reason to Panic

by Steelbydesign

Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported this week that Brandon Boykin would not even be starting for the Steelers against the Patriots; following Cortez Allen, William Gay, and Antwon Blake on the depth chart.

As fans typically do, there was a tidal wave of criticism coming for the front office.

Why did we trade a draft pick for a cornerback if he’s not better than the guys we already had?

I don’t believe that’s an accurate statement, that I saw a lot yesterday. I think that Brandon Boykin is better than any corner on the roster right now, and I think he’s going to contribute a lot to the Steelers defense this season.

Whether Steelers fans like it or not, the coaching staff has about  25 million reasons to try and make Cortez Allen work.

I also think that the Steelers will try and take advantage of Cortez’s size/speed combination to follow Rob Gronkowski around the field Thursday night. That doesn’t exactly explain why Brandon Boykin can’t start, but I do expect Cortez to see a lot of snaps, which may take some from Boykin.

For Cortez to cover Gronk, he’ll play mostly in the slot, which is where Boykin thrived in Philadelphia. The Steelers may think that Boykin is more suited to stay in the slot for them, and why he may not play much just this week.

Steelers fans need to show some patience. Boykin was traded to the team on August 1st, just a little over one month ago.

Yes, Boykin got most of a full training camp in, but that doesn’t mean he wasn’t behind some other guys already that have been on the roster for years.

I think that as the season goes on we’ll see Boykin worked into the fold more and more.

For those of you upset about them giving up a 4th (or 5th) round pick for a corner… How confident are you they’d have selected a solid one with that pick anyway?

Steelers fans should show some patience with Brandon Boykin. By season’s end I think he’ll be making plays.

Nobody is panicking. Leave it to the “media” (LOL this isn’t even really media) to make up the stories instead of report them.

This doesn’t surprise me at all, as it is common practice for the Steelers to have a pecking order that mirror the talent level of those in it.This is why i say “best man up”.
