We’re back from Labor Day weekend with Part 2 of my Fantasy Draft. I hope everyone- like me- did zero Labor on Labor day weekend much like Clemson did vs. LSU…. Speaking of, I hope to have a Steelers “Prospects to Watch” article out in the near future for a look ahead to the 2027 NFL Draft. I know- our draft work is never done. Even on “No Labor” Labor Day weekend…. Without further ado, we pick up in Round 6 of my fantasy draft and I am STILL looking for an RB2. Here we go…
Round 6, Pick #69 (tee hee)
I’m not sure if I mentioned this, but I need a running back. Bad. Quinshon Judkins is still avail…. Nevermind. He’s gone. Then someone literally just took Carolina’s 3rd running back. I mean, I’m desperate but is this where we are? Luckily I follow the draft, and so I’m smarter than most of my friends in this league. They know who Jerimiyah Love is, but clearly not Jadarian Price. He’s my guy and we’re just 2 picks away. Dammit. I’m clearly not as smart as I thought because there he went. You know what? Give me Christian Watson. I’ll go with value instead of forcing my hand. He’ll be my flex player. I’ll figure it out.
Round 6 best pick: I’m going to say Jadarian Price. There may be a bit of a committee in Seattle but with injuries I think Price is going to show out.
Round 6 worst pick: This is a toss up between Ahmani Marshall, RB Carolina, and Trayveon Williams, RB, someone? At the time he was with Detroit. I’m assuming these two managers are at a draft party with Aaron Rodgers and partaking in a little of the rainforest refreshments if you know what I mean.
Round 7, Pick #76
The TE and QB panic is real! Seven out of the twelve picks this round were either or. Which is when I “swoop in” and finally find my RB2. It was between Rico Dowdle, and Tony Pollard. I went with Pollard because I don’t think he has much competition over here in Tennessee. Not the most exciting pick, but Pollard is a lunch pail kind of player that may not single handedly win games for me, but he won’t lose them either.
Round 7 best pick: I don’t know about best pick, but I definitely lucked out getting a starter this late at a position of need. I already had QB and TE locked down, so I was sitting pretty.
Round 7 worst pick: There weren’t any terrible picks this round, but someone did take George Kittle- his only TE- ahead of a few other names out there.
Rounds 8-15 (and beyond?)
In total this was a 15-round draft, and at this point I essentially have all of my starters. I always wait until the last 2 rounds to draft a kicker and defense because I play the matchups week to week. Rounds 8-15 went like this:
Round 8: Jacory Croskey-Merritt
Round 9: Chuba Hubbard
Round 10: Travis Kelce-Swift
Round 11: Jalen Coker
Round 12: Jakobi Meyers
Round 13: Khalil Shakir
Round 14: Steelers Defense (what a homer)
Round 15: Harrison Mevis
Since our draft I’ve continued to pay attention to who is turning heads in camp, and eventually decided to switch Jakobis. I dropped Jakobi Meyers (who I hopefully wouldn’t need to use anyway) and picked up Ja’Kobi Lane. If Lane ends up being as good as they are talking about him, he’ll be used early and often especially in the red zone. I went with the upside play here because our waivers always go to worst teams first. If Lane starts putting up numbers, I’ll have no shot at claiming him but I’ll look smart if he’s stashed on my roster. Kinda like a Jedi. Obi-wan Jakobi anyone? No? Fine.
My team is pretty well-rounded and I feel pretty good about it. There are a few things I may have done differently, but nothing drastic. Yahoo gave me a draft grade of C, which makes me feel even better. Every time I’ve gotten a good grade, I’ve had a horrible season. The A+ in our league went Puka, Ashton Jeanty, Trey McBride, Josh Jacobs, Terry McLaurin, J. Price, and Courtland Sutton as their top 7. Ok Yahoo.
Look for weekly fantasy football articles going forward. Waiver wire adds, drops, players that may have had a big week but I would ignore. Of course I’ll also post my weekly result and probably rant about who let me down so look for that as well. But most importantly- GO STEELERS!!!
