SCB Steelers Hot Reads – Predictions?

Hey Steelers Fans. Welcome to Tuesday.

The Kickoff

Reminder. It’s May. Predicting the record of the 2026 Pittsburgh Steelers right now is useless. For crying out loud they were on the practice field in shirts and shorts yesterday but already we have people making their guesses as to what the Steelers’ record will be. Some do this as clickbait. Some do it to get a reaction (good job!) and some do it just to encourage discussion. We can debate all day as to whether this team has more or less talent than last year and that would be fine. Guessing the record before Aaron Rodgers has even gone on his summertime darkness retreat is just silly.

The OL Shuffle

As expected there were some changes in the first look at the Steelers’ offensive line. I would also suggest they aren’t done tinkering yet either. For starters, Mason McCormick and Troy Fautanu were on the left side. Spencer Anderson was at right guard and Dylan Cook was at right tackle. Zach Frazier was at center. What I find interesting is where Gennings Dunker may fit in. As a former right tackle at Iowa, perhaps the thinking is that a transition to right guard would be easier than left. After all, the left is where most of us anticipated him going with McCormick entrenched at right. Careful review of McCormick’s college career would show you that he has plenty of experience on the left. I think this is a perfect example of how the Mike Tomlin era is gone and the Mike McCarthy era is here. More of these types of things are likely coming.

Other Items of Note From Yesterday

I’ve said this before here and on the podcast but T.J. Watt looks lighter. How much lighter I can’t say but he just looks thinner through his midsection… Broderick Jones went through some stretching and individual work but he’s clearly still working his way back from neck surgery. Have to wonder if he’s a PUP candidate when Training Camp arrives… The QB order yesterday was Rodgers, Will Howard, Mason Rudolph and Drew Allar. I’m not going to lose my mind over this in May… Lots of praise already for Rookie Germie Bernard. Michael Pittman, Jr said he was impressed by how much Bernard knows and has caught onto so early in the process… With Danny Smith now in Tampa Bay, Chris Boswell made it clear his approach will be the same even under new Special Teams Coach Danny Crossman… Payton Wilson said that new Defensive Coordinator Patrick Graham wants this defense to be the ‘Steel Curtain.’ But Wilson added, “we have to earn it.” Ya think????

Random Reads

Much has been made this week about fan behavior and athlete response to it. From Rory McIlroy to Pete Crow-Armstrong, it’s been a long week so here are my thoughts. For far too long we’ve asked athletes to bite their tongues when harassed by fans. I’m not surprised at all that they are clapping back at fans. I’ll leave it at that… Have I ever mentioned how much I dislike “uniform concepts” for the Steelers? Part of what makes our franchise great is that we don’t have a million uniform combinations… Apparently the newest trend in Little League is to have a “sliding glove.” It helps if the hand gets stepped on but as I was told by a nine-year old, it also elongates the hand which is helpful when sliding so you get to the base faster. From the mouths of babes…
