Hey Steelers Fans. Welcome to Friday.

The Kickoff

Rule number one as a professional football general manager is “don’t get humiliated.” Well, Omar Khan can honestly say he didn’t follow rule number one as Makai Lemon had to cut him off so that he could answer a call from Philly. Making matters worse was that Khan then violated Rule number two which is “don’t panic.” Max Iheanachor will have 100% of my support as a Pittsburgh Steeler and nothing will change that right now. None of what occurred last night has anything to do with what he did or didn’t do. Khan and the Steelers’ brass had numerous options but instead went with the young man from Arizona State who has a huge ceiling but very limited experience. It is my hope that Iheanachor develops into a long-term solution at tackle. That would soften the blow from what has been a brutal last several hours for the Steelers and their general manager.

It All Added Up

What a scene it was… 350,000 people, the lights go dark and ‘Renegade’ begins playing. The place went nuts and as quickly as it reached a pinnacle, it came crashing back to Earth with an incredibly uninspired first round pick. It really did make sense when you think about it. In recent years, ‘Renegade’ has lost much of its luster and overall influence. Opposing teams now use it as fuel and more often than not they march down the field and put points on the board. And so that’s exactly what it felt like last night. The crowd got excited only to be let down in the end and that’s not Max Iheanachor’s fault one bit.

Day Two

Ian put together a great piece on the best players available for Day Two. I have no problem saying that Omar Khan has to nail it tonight. We will be live tonight around 8pmET unless the Steelers move up.

What a Show!

Episode 470 of the SCB Steelers Podcast presented by DEK Roofing Inc is available! We came on the air about 9pmET and stayed on through the entire first round. We had an awesome audience last night! Hope for more of the same tonight for Day Two!

The Environment

We heard from several people, including Ian who was down by Acrisure for several hours, that the city of Pittsburgh, the Steelers and the NFL did an outstanding job with the set up. Everything was marked properly, the stadium was open and people could move pretty freely for having that many packed into that space.

Random Reads

Ty Simpson, who went extremely high to the LA Rams, admitted he has never met or spoken with Head Coach Sean McVay. From McVay’s reaction, you could tell he wasn’t overly pleased with his GM’s selection… Kudos to the NY Jets who had an awesome first day with three first rounders including the trade back into the first four Omar Cooper, Jr… Carson Beck seems to be linked heavily with the Steelers. If they take him tonight I’ll be disappointed. Fourth round is fine… That said, don’t be surprised if they take Garrett Nussmeier in round three… I’m honestly not sure how Mike Vrabel can stand in front of his team with any sort of credibility.
