SCB Steelers Quick Hitters for December 23rd, 2014

by Steeldad

First of all, Happy Festivus!

-The Steelers will be off today as usual.

-Mike Tomlin will hold his weekly press conference today at Noon Eastern on steelers.com or ROOT Sports Pittsburgh.

-One change for this week is that the Steelers will also be off on Christmas Day.

-In case you missed it, the Steelers-Bengals game has been flexed by NBC to Sunday Night. The winner of this game will win the AFC North Division and a first-round home game.

-Here’s a question for you, how does Detroit’s Dominic Raioloa get suspended a game for stomping a guy’s leg but the Chiefs’ player who leg-whipped Ben Roethlisberger gets nothing? I don’t buy that was accidental for one second.

-If you need any further proof of media bias in the NFL I give you Tony Romo being in the MVP discussion and neither Ben Roethlisberger nor Le’Veon Bell. Supporters of Romo claim the presence of DeMarco Murray and rebuilt offensive line are the reasons for his candidacy. So Big Ben has thrown for over 1,200 yards more than Romo and hasn’t missed a snap yet Romo gets all the attention.

-I have to echo the sentiments of Peter King here. In his MMQB yesterday he slammed the shop.nfl.com commercial where the Vikings fans turn into Dallas, Philly, Cincy and Pittsburgh fans. I’ve never heard of die-hard fans changing loyalties for any reason let alone those stupid ones. Really bad advertising by the NFL there.

Shameless plug here but Chris, Matt and I are putting together our 2014 Steelers Awards. I guarantee you’ll love what we have to say.

-Big Ben is 365 passing yards shy of 5,000 for the season. He’s also the team’s second-leading rusher on the active roster.

-The Steelers are seven points away from 416 on the season. That would break the record held by the 1979 team.

-Antonio Brown isn’t going to catch record holder Marvin Harrison who had 143 receptions in 2002, but he should blow by Herman Moore and Wes Welker who stand at 123. Brown has 122 receptions in 2014.

-One more touchdown will give AB the Steelers season record for most in a season. He’s tied with Hines Ward, Louis Lipps and Buddy Dial with 12.

-With the Bengals win last night, they have clinched the final playoff spot in the AFC.
