SCB Steelers Hot Reads – Changes??

Hey Steelers Fans. Welcome to Wednesday.

The Kickoff

Remember in the postgame press conference following the playoff loss to the Ravens when Mike Tomlin said, “There will be changes?” Does anyone else recall that? I ask simply because I myself haven’t seen any changes. Aaron Rodgers is here and Russell Wilson isn’t. Was that the change Tomlin was referring to? The defense went out and got some proven veterans to improve that side of the ball. Is that what he meant because based on what I’ve seen through two weeks that can’t be it. As fans we were told there would be changes. These were necessary because the franchise has turned into an NFL version of  Groundhog Day. I’ve seen a lot of the same things I’ve seen over the last decade but what I don’t see… Is changes.

New Additions

The Steelers have added wide receiver Isaiah Hodgins and LB Ja’ Whaun Bentley who spent the last seven seasons in New England. Bentley is almost exclusively a run stopping linebacker. I’d go so far as to call him a poor man’s Elandon Roberts who the Steelers should have never let go. Hodgins has 60 career receptions and seven scores. He’s a big bodied receiver with tremendous hands. He isn’t going to scare anyone though with average speed. Where these two end up by season’s end is anyone’s guess. The team also released TE JJ Galbreath and WR Rakim Jarrett.

Social Media Post of the Day…

Steelers History

Our good friend Gordon is back this week with another installment of Steelers History. He’s going back to a late ’70’s matchup between the Steelers and Pats where a rookie was replacing a fan favorite at the kicker position.

Random Reads

Broderick Jones was markedly better Sunday than he was in week one. Now… Can he build on this is the question… Two prominent coaches already fired in College Football. I think Mike McDaniel in Miami is gone with another loss this week… In regards to the Brady comment above, the NFL is playing fast and loose with his situation. The idea that a guy could be a part owner of a team and broadcast games would have been laughed at 25 years ago… Kaleb Johnson made a huge, massive blunder on Sunday and he deserves to be ridiculed for it. That one play however was not the reason the Steelers lost. You can go back to about a dozen other plays that were just as troubling. I’m not defending Johnson, but perspective is needed… I really believe the next four games in five weeks will determine this season and maybe it will also determine Mike Tomlin’s future as well.
