It really has become quite pathetic. This ‘dalliance’ between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Aaron Rodgers is exhausting and what really pisses me off is that I don’t see it meaning much in terms of winning and losing games.
Rodgers was at the South Side facility yesterday in Pittsburgh for about six hours. He left as he arrived, with no contract and the future of both still in doubt. You may recall it was a year ago when Russell Wilson also came to Pittsburgh and left with nothing in hand only to sign with the Steelers two days later.
Whether Rodgers is set for a similar fate we do not know. What we do know however is that this is embarrassing. This entire situation has become a joke and for some even a nightmare and I think I speak for many that we just want it to end; preferably with Rodgers never returning.
Why are so many, including myself so down on Rodgers? Where do I begin? First of all, I really don’t care that he likes to go on “darkness retreats” and use ayahuasca. Whatever works for you as a person, do what you will man.
My concerns are more about football. Is Rodgers going to skip OTAs and mandatory mini-camp as he did last year in New York? Is he going to go on “The Pat McAfee Show” every week where he’ll make excuses and throw teammates under the bus? Will his play on the field be as poor as it was last year? If Russell Wilson struggled to get along with Offensive Coordinator Arthur Smith then what can we expect from the always divisive Rodgers? Do any of us really believe he will accept not being able to change a play at the line of scrimmage?
These are fair and important questions but even if they are all answered positively does it equal success on the field? Rodgers’ stats last season were worse than Wilson’s so I’m not really sure we can expect much from the 41-year old former MVP.
This entire saga is what the Steelers have become. I miss the days when guys were still focused on winning and not everything outside of that. I miss the days when coaches’ infatuations with players didn’t lead to this kind of thing. But here we are hoping this organization goes with Mason Rudolph rather than a much more decorated, yet polarizing Rodgers.
