Home Coaches Tomlin Joins Twitter

Tomlin Joins Twitter

by Steeldad

I have to say I’m a bit surprised to see this but it’s been verified. Pittsburgh Steelers’ Head Coach Mike Tomlin has joined Twitter.

His handle if you don’t already know is @CoachTomlin. His single tweet to this point promises “straight fire.” Alrighty then…

Am I the only one who thinks the timing of this is a bit odd? I say that for three reasons.

1. This is a team that is coming off a disappointing 8-8 season and needs to get down to business. With a bevy of new players and much to work on, the last thing I want Mike Tomlin doing is tweeting.

2. It was just last week that deadspin.com published a photo of Coach Tomlin sitting on a car being embraced by a young woman.

Apparently Tomlin had gone into a bar, bought a round for the patrons and departed with two six-packs. All while wearing Steelers’ gear which I found odd. Most coaches only wear team apparel when they are involved in official team events.

3. Why enter the Twittersphere on the very day your team begins a season of redemption?

Whether it was Tomlin’s idea or someone from PR, it doesn’t look good in my opinion.

My hope is that nothing more than standard, boring material comes across my timeline from him. Twitter is a place where far more negativity comes and goes than does anything positive.

Perhaps this is just an over-reaction by me. I hope it is.

If Tomlin rolls up to practice today in a tractor or dump truck then I give up altogether.
