SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The ‘Wright Stuff’ Edition

Good Thursday to you Steelers fans.

Just when you thought all was well in regards to the health of the Pittsburgh Steelers, we find out the team has signed kicker Matthew Wright from the Kansas City Chiefs’ practice squad. Chris Boswell, who missed the Philadelphia game with a groin injury, is clearly not well enough to return. Nick Sciba did a nice job replacing Boswell but he was let go largely because of his poor kickoffs. In two games for the Chiefs this season, Wright is 8 for 8 on his Extra Points and he’s 3 for 4 on his field goal attempts. Of course kicking in Acrisure Stadium is a whole different advantage but we’ll give Wright the benefit of the doubt. With Boswell set to miss multiple games, that means three of the Steelers’ top signees in recent years (T.J. Watt and Minkah Fitzpatrick) have missed time with injuries. That’s not good.

Congrats!

I don’t talk personal stuff on here nearly as much as I did when I started this whole things more than ten years ago but this is definitely worth mentioning… My son finished up his three-year high school Varsity Football career recently. He was named to the First-Team All-Conference Team as a defensive lineman. Not to bad for a kid outweighed every week by about 50lbs by his opposition.

Tweet of the Day… Ah the good ol’ days.

Kazee

Somewhat under the radar largely due to the BYE week is the return of Damontae Kazee. He suffered a gruesome injury in the preseason when he fractured his forearm and dislocated his wrist. The Steelers had big plans for him entering the season. They planned to go with some three-safety looks using Kazee in a variety of ways along with Fitzpatrick and Terrell Edmunds. Kazee’s specialty is turnovers. He had 17 interceptions in college so let’s hope that continues. Our offense needs every chance it can to succeed.
