SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The ‘Want to Be Wrong’ Edition

Good Tuesday to you Steelers fans.

I can only imagine what Kenny Pickett must be thinking these days. Stuck on the sidelines following surgery to mend his high-ankle sprain, quarterbacks across the league who are much less heralded than him are finding some levels of success. Whether the undrafted Tommy DeVito in New York or second rounder Will Levis in Tennessee, there are guys doing things that most of us hoped we’d be seeing from Pickett. This is the part where I add that “his offensive coordinator and offense in general has sucked and next year we’ll see the real Kenny Pickett.” It’s my sincere hope that this comes to fruition. I want to be 100% wrong on Kenny Pickett. I want him to look like the guy who led his team to an ACC Title at Pitt. I want to see the fearless gunslinger willing to take on all comers. I want to see the guy who surveys the defense and makes the proper reads and throws with confidence. Yeah… I want to be wrong big time because if I am it means success for our Pittsburgh Steelers. Whether it comes to fruition or not remains to be seen but that’s where I’m at right now and I’m sure I’m not alone.

Watt

I will not be one bit surprised to see the NFL make a visit to the Steelers’ offices this week in regards to T.J. Watt. As most of you know, Watt entered into concussion protocol on Friday. I’m not a doctor or expert but I’d be willing to bet money that Watt suffered the concussion on the very first play of the game when he caught Ezekiel Elliott’s knee in the face. I admit that concussions don’t always show themselves immediately so it’s possible he was cleared simply because he passed the on-field test. The NFL, if you haven’t noticed, is taking head injuries pretty seriously. If they find the Steelers didn’t handle this correctly then there will be consequences. You may have also noticed in his weekly press conference yesterday that Mike Tomlin “played dumb” on the issue as well as could be expected.

Would You Rather?

I’m just throwing this out there for your consumption… Would you rather the Steelers got into the postseason but would lose in the first round or would you rather they just lose their final four games and go into the offseason? Either way, significant change HAS to be coming to this organization right? Any tried and true Steelers’ fan never wishes their team to lose but one also has to wonder what is truly best for this team moving forward.

Pickens

I’ve said numerous times that George Pickens is well within his rights to be frustrated – he should be – as the ball seems to come his way less and less. Often called “immature” for his pouting and gesticulating on the sideline, there’s one thing I was Pickens would right now more than anything else… Own it. Don’t sit there and pretend you didn’t ‘like’ a comment on your instagram by claiming you don’t have that function enabled. Just say you’re pissed off man. Be honest about it.
