SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The “Team Needs” Edition

Good Tuesday to you Steelers fans.

In the NFL, teams are constantly working to better their teams. It’s a 24/7/365 process. They are consistently scouting college players and always monitoring potential free agents. For the rest of the world, this process doesn’t usually start until the team finishes its season. The Reese’s Senior Bowl is now underway in Mobile, Alabama which means the pre-draft process is now off and running. While there are certainly arguments about the order in which these needs are to be addressed, there is little argument about what positions those are. The Pittsburgh Steelers must address the quarterback position along with offensive line, defensive line, inside linebacker and cornerback. Again, the order in which you believe those are to be dealt with is different from the team and probably from your buddies in Black and Gold. Personally, I do not think they will address the starting the QB position this year. There are of course exceptions to that. This is not a very strong QB Draft class but there’s some talent. If one of the more talented guys fell to them in round one would they choose him? It’s entirely possible. For my money the team needs start on the lines. They must address holes there on the OL but also on the D-Line. There’s no way they can enter 2022 with any faith in Stephon Tuitt bring there. From that point, they have to nail down the inside backer spot and address the corner shortage as well. Every season there are “needs” but this offseason the needs seem to be many more than usual and if the Steelers are going to remain competitive in the AFC they better get things right.

Tweet of the Day… One of the great movies of all time.

13 Years Ago Today

Our Steelers captured their sixth Lombardi Trophy defeating the Arizona Cardinals 27-23 in Super Bowl XLIII. It’s honestly hard to believe it has been that long.

As We’ve Been Saying…

If you listen to the podcast or read this column regularly, we’ve suggested that both Omar Khan and Brandon Hunt could take over for Kevin Colbert. Khan would handle the financial side while Hunt would handle the player evaluation portion. Ed Bouchette has an article on The Athletic about this today. With Colbert staying on in a limited capacity this makes even more sense if you ask me. They are interviewing three or four other guys who have been with the Steelers in the past but I just don’t see them going outside for this hire.
