SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The “Offseason Questions” Edition

Good Thursday to you Steelers fans.

I can’t wait much longer for Art Rooney II to finally make his season-ending comments – apparently he’s addicted to Wordle or something -because let’s face it; I need to know! Not that his comments necessarily mean anything concrete but they at the very least provide a guide to his thinking. Some of the topics likely to come include…

  • What in the world is going on with Stephon Tuitt?
  • Will they get a deal done with Minkah Fitzpatrick?
  • JuJu Smith-Schuster claims he’d like to play in Kansas City. Will he?
  • Is Matt Canada really the offensive coordinator?
  • Who is actually the DEFENSIVE Coordinator?
  • Will they bring in a veteran QB?
  • Who are they targeting in free agency? O-Line? Linebacker?
  • Who are they targeting in the draft?
  • Who is the new General Manager?

These are but a handful of many more questions to be addressed in the coming months.

The Podcast

The SCB Steelers Podcast presented by DEK Roofing Inc will take to the airwaves this evening. We will discuss the above questions and dive head first into many more topics. Grab your beverage of choice and join us!

Tweet of the Day… No comment necessary.

Enough With the Rodgers Stuff

Hopefully, and I stress “hopefully,” the ridiculous idea that Aaron Rodgers is coming to Pittsburgh can be put to bed. His offensive coordinator in Green Bay Nathaniel Hackett has taken the Head Coaching job in Denver. The Broncos have long been one of the places Rodgers was thought to fancy. Rodgers reportedly has a tremendous relationship with Hackett. The Broncos will also have lots of cap space and could potentially entice Davonte Adams, a free agent, to come there as well. Again, Rodgers is under contract so he has to be traded in order for this to work. Either way we need to stop photoshopping Rodgers into the Black and Gold.

The DC

If I were a betting man I’d still lay money on Teryl Austin being named the team’s new defensive coordinator. It’s just what Mike Tomlin has proven to do over his tenure and I see little reason for change now. This, despite the fact the Steelers have interviewed three different guys for the position from the outside. There are a couple of trains of thought here. Is Tomlin seriously considering any of these guys or is this Art Rooney II that is being involved? Typically, the Steelers don’t wait too long to promote and/or name new coordinators. Tomorrow will be one week since Keith Butler announced his retirement so there isn’t a rush per se.

The OC

Since we’re talking coordinators…. I think one of the reasons that the Steelers will keep Matt Canada is that I believe they didn’t think Ben Roethlisberger was actually coming back. According to a couple of sources, the belief was that Big Ben was done and they were ready to move forward with a new approach on offense. When he made the proposal to take a massive paycut, the organization made the choice to go with him. Were there some that were ready to move on? Sure there were, but when the alternatives presented themselves it was a no-brainer. So this coming year I do believe is more of a year to analyze just what Canada can do whether we like it or not.
