SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The ‘Leaving Latrobe’ Edition

Good Friday to you Steelers fans.

The stuff has been packed, loaded and taken back to Pittsburgh. For the players, it’s a welcome reprieve from the hot and humid conditions of St. Vincent College. The Pittsburgh Steelers have officially broken Training Camp and have left Latrobe. For the veterans, it’s an opportunity to get back into their homes and their own beds. For the rookies and new players, they return to their somewhat ‘temporary’ housing arrangements. Either way, it’s nice to have air conditioning. If you’re looking for “Camp Winners and Losers” from me, you’ll get no such thing. For me, it’s pretty simple. If you leave Latrobe without any significant injuries then you’re a winner. It’s all about health right now. Guys like Nate Herbig. who is battling a shoulder injury and Larry Ogunjobi who has that pesky foot issue will not play. Tre Norwood sounds like he’s got a chance to play but we’ll see. Most of the team is healthy and will play on Saturday night. I’ll have my “what we’re looking for” article out later today.

The Podcast

Episode 331 of the SCB Steelers Podcast presented by DEK Roofing Inc is available for your listening and/or viewing pleasure! We had a great show last night as we discussed the latest on the Steelers. From their performance in Tampa to individual performances overall we covered it all the only way we know how! The show originates LIVE from the Bradshaw Bourbon Studio!!

Tweet of the Day… If you’re an avid viewer/listener of the Podcast then you know we close each show with an appearance by the late American Top 40 host Casey Kasem. I know what you’re thinking; isn’t he dead? Yes, he sure is but Scarps is a master of impersonations and he does his very own “long distance dedication” as it relates to the Steelers. If you’re old enough to remember Kasem, you won’t want to miss this. It’s hilarious.

The Nest is Empty

My wife and I have officially become ’empty nesters’ after getting my son to college in Ohio this week. My daughter is already out of college and living life so I have to admit this is a weird feeling. My daughter being gone is something I adjusted to awhile ago, but it’s only been a few days for my adjustment with the boy being gone. Maybe I’m just trying to adjust to being old!

Looking Ahead

I try my best not to draw too many conclusions from one preseason game but if I had a crystal ball here are a couple of things I’m anticipating. First, Le’Raven Clark did not look good at all at right tackle. He was slow off the ball and was beaten several times in pass protection. I won’t be surprised if Omar Khan looks for someone to bring in as cuts happen in a couple of weeks. Secondly, the same could be said for the secondary. If there’s a decent and affordable cornerback available I wouldn’t be shocked to see the Steelers grab him. Lastly is Spencer Anderson. A seventh rounder from Maryland, not much was expected from him but that could be changing. Anderson has played everywhere along the offensive line and we all know how Mike Tomlin loves versatility. Will he make the roster? I’m going to say it’s a coin flip right now.
