SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The ‘Knocking on the Door’ Edition

Good Wednesday to you Steelers fans.

If we described the approaching NFL Draft as the mailman dropping off a package then get ready for the door knock. That’s how close we are to the 2024 NFL Draft coming up tomorrow night from Detroit.

Not Gonna Happen

Yesterday Tony Pauline of Pro Football Network said yesterday that he’s hearing the Steelers are in talks to trade up to the 12 spot with Denver and they’ll select Toledo CB Quinyon Mitchell. If you think this is or isn’t going to happen to slap some money down on a wager. Personally I see no way this happens. Why would the Steelers, who are desperate and completely ‘not shy’ about the fact that they want to build their offensive and defensive lines, make this trade? They would likely have to give up significant draft capital to do so which would eliminate their chances of adding pieces to their O-Line and D-Line.

Aiyuk

I had some thoughts on the possibility that the Steelers might trade for Bradnon Aiyuk of the San Francisco 49ers. It sounds even less likely after the Niners said they wanted a round one pick for him yesterday.

Podcast Doubleheader!

Not only will we be on air LIVE when the NFL Draft is taking place on Thursday night but we will be back on the airwaves on Friday night as well for Day Two of the Draft. That features rounds two and three. You can find the SCB Steelers Podcast presented by DEK Roofing Inc right here!

My Final Mock

I’m not the biggest fan of mock drafts and you probably aren’t either but I find them to be a necessary tool for two reasons. First, they help me sort through players and find some trends that may or may not be accurate as the Draft nears. Secondly, I do them because people like you are curious. I tried to piece together everything that’s gone on in the lead up to the Draft and while I don’t feel good about every guy I selected, I do have some real confidence in a few. For your reading enjoyment

Zach Wilson

Remember when this guy was the toast for the town simply because he made a nice throw on the run during his Pro Day? He was traded this week to Denver which should suit his lifestyle perfectly. There are a lot of cougars out there in Colorado… If you know you know. LOL

The Quarterbacks

You don’t need me to tell you that there is no position more overvalued in the Draft than the QB spot. Take for instance that Michael Penix, Jr is now being discussed as a potential first round selection. This is no knock on the young man as he’s battled some severe injuries to get to this point and if I’m him? Go ahead and doubt me all you want. The reality is that the Michigan defense exposed a few flaws in the National Title game and that’s why he’s been more likely a third round guy. As a Steelers’ fan however, please! Let him join the other QBs that go ahead of us at pick 20!
