SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The “Hacked Off” Edition

Good Tuesday to you Steelers’ fans.

By now you’ve surely seen Steelers’ Head Coach make a rare television appearance yesterday on ESPN. It was one of the best takedowns of the worldwide leader this writer has ever seen and it was way past due. I wrote about it in the aftermath which you can read here but while I have many issues with Mike Tomlin the Coach, my respect for Mike Tomlin the man grew even more. These ‘hot take’ shows are modern day soap operas. They take a storyline, decide which way to go with it and then come up with every possible comment and statement they can to drive the narrative in the direction in which they choose. All this while giving a big middle finger to the actual truth. Tomlin used the term “hacked off” about the entire situation involving Mason Rudolph and Myles Garrett and while I’m certain there were other terms he would have preferred, ‘hacked off’ turned out to be perfect.

Tweet of the Day… This.

Offseason Big Picture

If you aren’t familiar with Slack, it’s a messaging app that allows employees or group members to stay in constant contact with each other. My crew here at SCB uses this and probably too much at times but last night was a perfect example of why we remain in constant contact. We were discussing the Draft and it evolved into a discussion of the team’s overall needs which left me quite concerned. You could argue the Steelers need help at tight end, guard, right tackle, running back, defensive line, outside backer, inside backer and safety. Knowing you aren’t going to get all of that in the Draft and that you can’t afford much in free agency, it means some guys will have to step up and perform at higher levels than expected. Suddenly the needs this season just seem more than previous years but they probably aren’t. I think.

The SCB Store

If you haven’t already make sure you check out DC4L Custom Tees. Our store is there but they offer lots of other cool tees and hoodies as well. Our latest shirt is honoring T.J. Watt.

Cheating

The evidence against the Houston Astros is overwhelming. They cheated and they deserve a far harsher punishment than they are receiving. With this going on I can’t help but think back to Spygate. We’ll never know just how damaging the evidence was because Roger Goodell destroyed the tapes. But the larger picture here is how these things have been handled. In both cases, the commissioners have protected the teams and the leagues themselves and why wouldn’t they? Can you imagine in today’s world what would happen with a punishment similar to what the 1919 Black Sox received? Every single player involved with the fixing of the outcomes of games was banned for life and continues to be to this day. There is no way the NFL or MLB could get away with this today simply due to the money that’s involved. Think about a year long suspension for a franchise or the banishment of some of the best players in the game today…. Despite it being the right call it will never happen.

Have a great day Steeler Nation!
