SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The “Bye Week Blues” Edition

by Steeldad
Heyward

Good Friday to you Steelers’ fans.

When I was in college many years ago I used to walk up to a local bar to see a guy named Larry McCray play the blues. He’d come into town every few months, typically on a Thursday night and my friends and I got to know Larry pretty well. We’d grab a table in the front row and he’d chat with us between sets. One of the band members walked over and got into the conversation. I’ll never forget what he said. “”The blues is like a roller coaster. Some songs get you up and some bring you way down.” That’s how I feel about the Steelers’ bye week. I look forward to not having the stress of the game but once Sunday rolls around I miss seeing them play. Therefore, I guess the Steelers’ bye week is my version of the blues. Or something like that anyway…

Ahem! The Podcast

Yesterday in this space I said we were going to record the Steel City Blitz Steelers Podcast presented by 26shirts.com/Pittsburgh. Due to circumstances completely in my control I couldn’t do it. I say that because if you listen to the podcast you’ll know my home suffered some pretty severe water damage recently and it has been a nightmare to deal with. Anyway…. We are going to get a show done this weekend and then another later in the week.

Tweet of the Day… Great move by this young Steeler!

What We Want to See Happen This Weekend

With the Steelers off, there is still much around the league that is going on that has an impact on our potential fortunes. Here’s what we’d like to see in the games this weekend. First off, I hope we see Seattle take care of the Ravens out West. Secondly, I’d like to see the Dolphins knock off the Bills. Third we’d like to see Chargers beat the Titans and lastly how about a tie between the Texans and Colts? Oh and is too much to ask for a NY Jets upset of the Patriots???

Not So Fast My Friend…

The Athletic’s Ed Bouchette has an article up about how the Steelers seemingly rebuilt their linebacking corps overnight. He cites the play of Devin Bush and T.J. Watt as well as others but I think this is all a bit premature. As of right now, the Steelers do not have a proven replacement for Bud Dupree who will no doubt leave in free agency in 2020. Mark Barron has not performed nearly as well as most of us anticipated when he was brought in. I do believe this defense needs Vince Williams especially alongside the speedy Bush but Williams remains a bit of a problem in coverage. To be really fair, Dupree has played well and that’s made a difference on the defense. If he stays on the current pace he’ll reach ten sacks but I don’t see that being enough to keep him in town. Yes, the linebackers are playing well but this unit isn’t as rebuilt as some think it is just yet.

Have a great weekend Steeler Nation!
