Hey Steelers Fans. Welcome to Friday.

The Kickoff

Over the last few days, I’ve seen some people trying to “place” this current Pittsburgh Steelers’ team. What I mean, is that fans often try to compare the current teams to past versions of the Steelers. The one that I’ve seen come up a lot is 2005. Frankly? I don’t know why… The ’05 team went on a run just to get into the postseason and then won three straight road playoff games before winning Super Bowl XL in Detroit. This current team has gone on a “run” of sorts but also dropped a pretty embarrassing game in Cleveland. That team had a young, up and coming quarterback in Ben Roethlisberger while this one has a significantly older Aaron Rodgers. Lastly, these defenses are night and day different in my opinion too.

This… Cannot Happen

Five of those six games were on the road and the one that wasn’t was the debacle at home during Covid against the Browns. For all of the good things that Mike Tomlin has done, I honestly don’t know how he would (or should) survive if they get behind like this again and lose.

It’s been pretty interesting to see how things have played out with the job openings in the NFL so far. They took quite a turn when John Harbaugh became available though. From everything I’m hearing and being told is that he likely won’t make a decision until after this weekend’s games. The reason being is that there are a couple of teams – if they lose – that could be looking for a new coach… Arthur Smith is scheduled to meet with the Tennessee Titans about their head coaching position. Personally, I just don’t see why anyone would be interested in having him be their HC. He’s got a history there with the Titans but I think he’d be a mistake. Although it would be fun to see who we would bring in as his replacement.

JPJ and Company

Woody Marks is not Derrick Henry. This doesn’t mean the Steelers’ defense can just abandon any thoughts about Houston running the ball because if they do, then we are in trouble. That said, this is going to be a big challenge for Joey Porter, Jr, Jalen Ramsey and the rest of the secondary. Nico Collins is really good and so is Jayden Higgins. Dalton Schultz is more than capable at tight end too. What really concerns me is how early in games that Houston likes to take deep shots. We cannot give blow coverages the way we did Sunday night.

Random Reads

University of Miami QB Carson Beck has gone from a round one guy at Georgia, to a mid-round guy for the Canes, back to an early round guy as his team as won three straight to get into the National Title game. Personally I would not be a fan of him in Pittsburgh due to his streaky nature but credit to the young man. He’s done a lot for himself the last three weeks… Sounds like NIL is already coming to high school athletics. I can’t see anything positive coming out of that… I really hate playing a postseason game on Monday Night. Would have never believed in my youth that this would even be a thing.
