At about 8:45am today the Pittsburgh Steelers finally did what should have been done a long time ago when they fired offensive coordinator Matt Canada. Since he took over, the offense has been one train wreck after another and it clearly came to a point where Art Rooney II could no longer tolerate what was happening.
In recent weeks, players like Chuks Okorafor and Diontae Johnson have been vocal about their displeasure in the offense and then on Sunday Najee Harris essentially went ‘scorched Earth.’ My guess is what likely triggered this the most is that second year QB Kenny Pickett has regressed since last year.
Regardless of what we will hear from the organization, ARII made this call likely at the behest of his head coach. It was ARII that wanted Canada with his poor performance starting to create locker room issues, a move had to be made.
For the time being, Quarterbacks Coach Mike Sullivan will call plays but Running Backs Coach Eddie Faulkner will be listed as the team’s Offensive Coordinator.
