For those of us who want nothing to do with Aaron Rodgers being the quarterback of our beloved Pittsburgh Steelers, we may have an “out.” Reports yesterday out of New Orleans suggest that Derek Carr’s shoulder may keep him from playing in 2025.
This scenario, while likely awful for Saints’ fans, is an opportunity to get Rodgers off the main page of Steelers’ hype. I firmly believe that the Crescent City would be the perfect place for Rodgers.
He could do his darkness retreats deep in Bayou Country. There are also ample amounts of “fuzzy medicine” down there too. In all seriousness – well, kind of – Rodgers going to the Saints would be a glorious development for all of us.
No more “Is he coming to Pittsburgh?” No more “Is he going to announce his decision on Pat McAfee?” No more “When will he decide?” And no more “Why are the Steelers allowing themselves to be held hostage by this guy?”
Ask yourself, seriously, would Aaron Rodgers really take this current Steelers’ team to a significantly greater number of wins than Mason Rudolph? At best we might be talking about the difference between 8-9 and 10-7 and where does that get us? It gets us drafting in the 20’s again that’s where.
To say that Omar Khan and Mike Tomlin have botched this entire QB situation is accurate. They put all of their eggs in Justin Fields’ basket and the Jets’ made him an offer he couldn’t refuse. They then turned to Sam Darnold… Nope. And then the backup plan emerged. Aaron Rodgers would be a fool not to want to play for Tomlin right? Everyone else does or so I’m told.
But Rodgers has kept the Steelers waiting. He’s the star high school QB sitting behind a bunch of Power 4 school hats taunting them with which one he’s going to put on. The only difference here is that there’s just one hat. The lonely Steelers’ cap continues to sit there while Khan and Tomlin continue to sit by their phones.
The news about Carr gives us hope though. Maybe, just maybe, the Saints will give Rodgers a ring. Maybe they’ll throw their hat on that table and give Rodgers something more to think about other than torturing Steelers’ fans. The entire Rodgers saga has been embarrassing and downright nauseating.
If another team entering the circus and gets him out of our tent then I’m all for it.
