Although it comes as no surprise, Place Kicker Chris Boswell has agreed to a four-year, $28 million extension with the Pittsburgh Steelers. The $7 million per season average ties Boswell with Dallas kicker Brandon Aubrey. This news comes via Adam Schefter of ESPN.
The former Rice Owl is sixth all-time in NFL history in field goal accuracy making 87.6% of his attempts. Of the top ten in all-time accuracy, only Justin Tucker and Josh Lambo are no longer playing. In the past four seasons, Boswell has also connected on 24 of 28 attempts of 50 yards or longer.
This extension likely means the 35-year old Boswell will finish his career in Pittsburgh. I stress the word “likely” only because kickers tend to play into their 40’s more than other players so we shall see.
