Hey Steelers Fans. Welcome to Tuesday.
The Kickoff
Mike McCarthy is no stranger to press conferences. While he often looks as uncomfortable as one possibly could, he’s done enough of these to know how to handle them. It was not a surprise that he admitted to wishing he didn’t use the words he was caught on TV using but he also acknowledged that he had talked to the team Thursday morning about playing with emotion. Towards the end of his presser however, he mentioned that the team “needs to clean up their house.” Many are taking this to mean any number of things but I don’t think it’s as extreme as some believe. McCarthy isn’t wrong in that the team needs to clean things up. From assignments in the secondary to fundamental breakdowns in tackling, there are things that have to be addressed. I wouldn’t look into this any more than that.
Additions
The Steelers signed S Sean Murphy-Bunting from the Tampa Bay Practice Squad and signed LB Marte Mapu to the Practice Squad. Murphy-Bunting missed the entire 2025 season with an injury. He has started 65 games in his 82 game career mostly with the Bucs and Atlanta Falcons. Mapu started 10 games for the Patriots over the last three seasons. Derrick Harmon was also put on IR while CB Donieko Slaughter was released.
The Latest Podcast
We are back in our usual Thursday night slot at 10pmET this week. The SCB Steelers Podcast presented by DEK Roofing Inc will air LIVE on YouTube and on ‘X.’ We’ll briefly discuss the loss in Cleveland, how the Steelers franchise needs to adjust and look ahead to the Colts!
Under the Radar
While we typically expect to see the higher drafted rookies making an immediate impact, it appears that two other guys are the ones impressing the most. Daylen Everette and Robert Spears-Jennings were both given high praise from Coach McCarthy yesterday. I don’t want to get too ahead of anything here but I can see both starting in the secondary very soon. I am more than happy to live with some of the ups and downs if these two become long-term staples back there.

“Self-Scouting” is not a new term. Coaches have done it for years and Mike Tomlin did it on BYE weeks and other extended breaks… The NFL rightfully suspended two officials for their conduct this past weekend. It was a bad weekend overall for officials who called more penalties than any other weekend in recent history… Does anyone know what pass interference is? Asking for a friend… Glad we caught the Atlanta Falcons when we did. They look unstoppable right now… Would kids these days have survived if teams only had a home and away uniform? Strange days… Look at that! I went the whole column and didn’t mention the guy we just traded!
