His father Ed was also a head official and was known mostly for having some serious biceps. The last time he called a Steelers’ game was December of last year when the Steelers beat the Bengals in Cincy. His crew called 20 penalties that day. His crew is currently fourth in the amount of flags thrown with 108. The home team is currently averaging about two less penalties per game under Hochuli’s watch than is the road team.

Injury Notes: With Calvin Austin III returning, the loss of Miller shouldn’t hurt too much… Frazier is the guy to keep an eye as he’s been bothered by the calf all week… I’m told most of the Packers listed as questionable should play on Sunday Night.

Three Things We Need to See for a Steelers’ Victory:

Let’s See It Defense. Last week in Cincy was nothing short of an abomination as Joe Flacco dropped, planted and threw at will. This week, the Steelers get Jordan Love who gets the ball out even faster. Granted, the Packers don’t have Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, but if the Steelers haven’t adjusted to that style of play then shame on Mike Tomlin and Teryl Austin. They have to get corners up and willing to re-route receivers in order to disrupt the timing.

Stay Balanced Offensively. The Packers are very good defensively but they aren’t invincible. I do not expect the Steelers to have the running success they saw in Cincinnati but I also don’t expect that they will abandon it altogether either. This is a big challenge for an improving offensive line to be certain but with Jaylen Warren and Kenneth Gainwell running well they should be up for it. Arthur Smith has been very creative the last few weeks so I’m hopeful that continues.

Live Up to the Hype. T.J. Watt was largely invisible last week. Patrick Queen played his worst game of the season. Joey Porter, Jr and Jalen Ramsey struggled as well. Let’s go ahead and assume that the short week caught up with them – that’s fine – there are no such excuses this weekend. Watt needs to get to the quarterback, Queen needs to throttle down and stop over-running the ball and as for Porter, Jr and Ramsey? They’ve got to be better plain and simple.

The ‘X’ Factor: Each week I will select a player from each team who I believe will need to play above and beyond in order for his team to win.

X-Factor Steelers: DeShon Elliott. When I think of a calming presence or of a guy that can really help get things squared away I think of Elliott. The secondary was brutal last Thursday night and while one could to Ramsey, I need a guy like Elliott who is blunt with his words and a leader with his play. He has to be beyond good this weekend.

X-Factor Packers: Matthew Golden. The rookie wideout has been relatively quiet so far this year but after what the Bengals’ receivers did he may sense an opportunity. The Steelers will no doubt be focused on Romeo Doubs and Tucker Kraft for obvious reasons. Forgetting about the speedy Golden would be a huge mistake.

Prediction: There are several trends heading into this game that favor the Steelers and those are difficult to ignore. The one being that Green Bay hasn’t won in Pittsburgh since 1970. When you consider the Packers played out West Sunday and are on the road again this week, it’s hard not to like the Steelers. While it won’t be pretty, I think the Black and Gold find a way to get a win.

Steelers 23 Packers 20 in OT

Season Prediction Record: 2-4
