Good Thursday to you Steelers fans.
It has been an incredibly busy summer for this writer. Graduation, graduation parties, a final season of travel soccer (and now a summer league) has left me with much less time than I normally enjoy. It’s therefore extremely hard for me to believe that the Pittsburgh Steelers will report to St. Vincent College in Latrobe for Training Camp two weeks from today. I honestly do not believe “non-fans” understand what a bunch of guys showing up to a small school means to us. It’s like Spring Training for baseball folks when the players start to return to their respective locales in Florida or Arizona yet it’s different too. No offense to other fans of other sports or other teams but something just hits different when you see David DeCastro hauling in his La-Z-Boy recliner or Vince Williams showing up like he’s Stone Cold Steve Austin. Their return is our return. It doesn’t mean summer is over, it means that football is closer. If you’ve never had the opportunity to attend Training Camp then you should make it a priority. You deserve to sweat in the humidity of the Laurel Valley while watching our guys sweat on the even hotter fields below. It’s much more than that – believe me it is – because you will meet new friends and perhaps some old ones too. All I know is that football is two closer and I’m good with that.

We’ll be discussing who we think is headed to the Steelers’ Hall of Honor plus we start looking ahead to Camp and some of the key position battles that will be taking place. We’ve been busy cranking out our Position Previews as Training Camp nears. So far we’ve got the QBs, RB’s, TEs and Interior O-Line. I’m working on tackles now and will have wide receivers coming too before flipping to the defensive side of the ball. You can check them out right here.
Should We Call Them “Watties?”
Pretty cool to see Steelers’ All-Pro T.J. Watt and his now retired brother J.J. Watt on the box of Wheaties. There was a time when being on Wheaties was like a true badge of honor and it still very much is. But starting with Bruce Jenner and then Michael Jordan and Mary Lou Retton… It’s always been a real honor to be on there so congrats to the guys.
