SCB Steelers Hot Reads – Buzzless?

Hey Steelers Fans. Welcome to Monday.

The Kickoff

Is it just me or is this Draft lacking any buzz whatsoever? Actually, I don’t think it’s me… I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that there just aren’t any big-time guys or big time personalities in this Draft. Fernando Mendoza is a great story and a likable person but there isn’t much drama surrounding his selection at number one. But even beyond him, there isn’t a lot to get excited about. Perhaps some of it also has to do with the consistent message that the Greater Pittsburgh area will be an absolute nightmare and more and more people are choosing to stay home. Like most other major events, the buzz will be there once things get going but overall, this Draft doesn’t generate a whole lot of excitement.

The Latest Podcast

Episode 468 of the SCB Steelers Podcast presented by DEK Roofing Inc aired last Thursday. Our main topic of conversation was the defensive side of the ball as it pertains to the Draft. Coming up this week, we’ll flip over to the offense.

Latest Mock Draft

My second Mock Draft is now available for your viewing and dissecting pleasure. My final version will be out the morning of the first round.

Draft Goings-On

Fairly disturbing stuff that has come out about Miami EDGE rusher Reuben Bain. Basically, he was responsible for a car accident that resulted in a death. There’s been a lot of talk about a guard in Round one, but what I think we are forgetting is that the Steelers did sign free agent Brock Hoffman who has starting experience. I wonder if this doesn’t push guard into day two or three. There will no doubt be pressure on the Steelers to do something “big” in the Draft considering where it is being held. That said, I don’t see it going that way. They’ll stick to doing what is right versus anything flashy simply because there aren’t many guys worth trading up for in my opinion.

Watt on the Block?

The idea that the Steelers could trade T.J. Watt came up on the Podcast Thursday night. While it’s possible, the team isn’t going to get the return they would have had they traded him prior to his last big contract. Speaking of Watt, he looks lighter to me at OTAs. I wonder if this is related to him getting off the ball slower in 2025.

Random Reads

Rory McIlroy may not be an American player but he’s awfully hard to cheer against. The guy came from very middle class origins in Northern Ireland and has now won two Masters’ in a row… Someone needs to get Sergio Garcia a chill pill. Relax man… I planted nine arborvitae bushes yesterday and feel like I just crossed a mountain range with a piano on my back. Getting old sucks…If it weren’t for his injury history I’d be all over Jordyn Tyson in the first round. He’s a little bit of everything that the Steelers need at receiver… I will continue to say that I do not believe the Steelers will use all 12 of their picks. I believe there will be a trade that garners them more picks for next year.
