SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The “You Don’t Say??” Edition

Good Wednesday to You Steelers’ Fans.

ESPN used to be a place where unique, well-thought analysis could be found. That’s not often the case anymore and if you need any further proof than may I present Dan Orlovsky? Now an NFL analyst for the Mothership, Orlovsky said yesterday “the Antonio Brown and Le’Veon Bell departures won’t help the Steelers’ production.” Whoa. Is he serious? Does he really mean that taking away the NFL’s most prolific receiver and an all-pro running back will limit the Steelers’ offensive output? I. Am. Stunned. OK…. Even I can’t stand my own level of sarcasm. Is that what ESPN calls hard-hitting analysis now? It’s like a baseball analyst suggesting that when the 1927 Yankees lineup started to break up that the offense “might not be quite the same.” But here’s another problem with Orlovsky’s take. Last season James Conner had stars eerily similar to Bell. Do those not count? If Orlovsky wants to discuss the production of Brown then fine, that’s a much more salient argument. No one in their right mind would expect a single player to mimic those numbers. But what’s exciting is that there are several guys waiting for the opportunity to prove their worth. I’ve seen a lot of analysis from Orlovsky and some of it has been pretty solid. But his take yesterday was the epitome of offseason NFL talk.

Tweet of the Day… The Big Ragu is not a fan of humidity during his workouts. LoL.

The New Orleans Saints said yesterday they are prepared to make Michael Thomas the highest paid receiver in the NFL. If this comes to fruition then the Oakland Raiders should be prepared for a major tantrum from their newly acquired receiver. Well… It was never about the money though was it?

The Post-Gazette’s Ray Fittapaldo has an article up about Chris Boswell and the overhaul the Special Teams’ units are undergoing. The stuff on Boswell is fairly common knowledge the idea that Danny Smith is going lead this change is troubling. Real change would have been sending Smith packing. Other than the occasional fake punt or field goal, Smith’s units have consistently under-performed.

Have a great day Steeler Nation!
