Early Reaction: The Steelers’ Schedule Isn’t Too Bad

Maybe I’m getting soft in my advanced age but compared to recent seasons this schedule for the Pittsburgh Steelers doesn’t strike me as all the bad. We already knew they played in Dublin during week four and therefore it’s no surprise that they’ll get the week five BYE. Personally I’m not a fan an off week this early but it is what it is I guess. Here is the schedule…

There’s no question the back end of the season is going to be a doozy but we knew the opponents and based on previous years, it seemed likely again this season. Two of the last three games are on the road but the Steelers do get Baltimore at home. That means they will play in Baltimore first which will mark the third straight game in the series in Baltimore. Pittsburgh won’t have to wait as they did last year for AFC North games. They’ll get the Browns and Bengals in weeks six and seven.

Primetime Games

Even with no “big-time” quarterback the Steelers still pulled four primetime games. They’ll play two back-to-back games starting with a Thursday Nighter in Cincy (Week Seven) followed by a Sunday Night contest against Green Bay in the Steel City. Week 10 will see the Steelers play in Los Angeles on Sunday Night against the Chargers while they’ll host the Miami Dolphins in Week 15 on Monday Night. Two road and two home primetime games isn’t all bad in my opinion.

Other Interesting Tidbits

The opener against the New York Jets will feature Justin Fields starting against the Steelers whom he started for in the opener last season… If Aaron Rodgers does sign with the Steelers, he’ll play both of his former teams in the Jets and the Packers… The Steelers will play in Chicago week 12. They are 1-12 all-time in the Windy City… Pittsburgh is 9-7 all-time when playing at the Chargers… The Colts come to the Steel City in Week Nine. They have won just twice in 19 games against the Steelers in Pittsburgh.

All things considered, I don’t put too much into the schedule release. It’s May after all and there is still a ton of things that will happen, injuries being the most significant. The 2025 schedule could be worse. They are on the road in back-to-back weeks just one time and that’s at the end of the season. As they say, we’ll let the chips fall where they may.
