Week 7 of the WPIAL football season is mostly in the books with a few games left to take place on Saturday. Here are some scores and game notes from Friday night’s action. Check out our WPIAL Standings Page which will be updated with all the results and tiebreakers at the end of the weekend.
6A Results
Mt. Lebanon 35, Norwin 7 – Norwin gave Lebo all they could handle. The game was 7-7 at halftime before Lebo stretched the lead out in the second half with Joey Daniels and Eli Heidenreich hooking up for two touchdown passes.
Central Catholic 35, Hempfield 0
North Allegheny 36, Canon-McMillan 14 – North Allegheny was clinging to a 15-14 lead before exploding for two big runs in the second half. The bigger story might be Canon-Mac’s star RB Ryan Angott leaving with an injury.
Seneca Valley 49, Baldwin 12 – Baldwin had won their last two games, but Seneca Valley put a stop to their streak and halted Baldwin’s playoff hopes. Seneca Valley could still work their way into a 3-way tie for the conference title if they beat Mt. Lebanon next week.
5A Results
Allegheny Six Conference
Moon 16, Upper St Clair 13 – Dylan Sleva ran for 201 yards to lead the Tigers to victory atop the Allegheny Six Conference. Moon remains the only unbeaten team in 5A.
Bethel Park 38, Peters Twp 8 – Bethel Park stays unbeaten in conference play and will have a showdown with Moon for the Conference Title.
West Allegheny 28, South Fayette 0 – Brayden Lambert booted field goals of 42 and 41 yards as West Allegheny kept themselves alive in the Allegheny Six playoff race.
Big East Conference
Franklin Regional 41, Latrobe 40 – In one of the best games of the night, jumped out to a 20-7 lead early. Franklin Regional battled back to cut the lead to 6 by the end of the first quarter. Latrobe used the second quarter to extend the lead to 40-14 before Franklin Regional hit on a hook and lateral to cut the lead to 40-20 at halftime. The script flipped completely in the second half as Franklin Regional scored late in the third to cut the lead to 13. In the fourth quarter, Donnelly ran for a short touchdown with 6 minutes to go then threw a 20-yard touchdown pass with just over a minute left to give the Panthers the lead. Donnelly finished the night with 3 touchdown passes and a rushing TD.
Penn-Trafford 45, Connellsville 6
Gateway 40, Woodland Hills 21 – Woody High took a 21-20 lead in the early fourth quarter by converting a two-point conversion, but after that it was all Gateway.
Northeast Conference
Kiski 42, Shaler 27 – Brock Wilkins ran for 100 yards and 3 TDS and CJ Hepler ran for 250 yards and a score as Kiski clinched their first winning season since 2003.
Penn Hills 28, Fox Chapel 7 – A week after accounting for 5 TDs, Julian Dugger threw 3 TD passes to his older brother Jaden.
North Hills 13, Pine-Richland 7 – North Hills scored two first-half touchdowns and held on defensively to deal Pine-Richland their first loss in conference play since joining 5A.
4A Results
Big Eight Conference
McKeesport 42, Laurel Highlands 7 – McKeesport’s ground game rolled past Laurel Highlands. The Tigers now have dates with Thomas Jefferson and Belle Vernon to close out the season with a shot at the conference title. Laurel Highlands’ playoff hopes come down to next week’s game against Trinity.
Thomas Jefferson 42, Ringgold 6
Belle Vernon 49, Trinity 0 – Welcome back, Quinton Martin! The sophomore ran for 2 TDs and had 2 more on the receiving end of Devin Whitlock passes.
Greater Allegheny Conference
Highlands 41, Armstrong 27 – The Greater Allegheny Conference just got crazier. Highlands started the year 4-0 then dropped 3 in a row and now knocked off second-place Armstrong. Chandler Thimons ran for 3 TDs and threw for another and Luke Bombalski ran for 3 TDs to lead the Golden Rams to victory.
Hampton 42, Indiana 6 – Hampton clinched a playoff spot with the win over Indiana, and with Armstrong losing clinched at least a share of the Conference Title.
Plum 39, Knoch 0 – Eryck Moore ran for 223 yards and 3 TDs to lead the Mustangs to victory.
Greensburg Salem 19, Mars 12 – Greensburg Salem keeps themselves in the playoff hunt in the middle of the pack. Mars is in danger of missing the playoffs for the first time since 2004.
Parkway Conference
Beaver 35, Chartiers Valley 28 – This game went to overtime tied at 28. Wyatt Ringer scored for Beaver then the Bobcats defense held the Colts on 4th and goal to seal the victory.
Aliquippa 49, Montour 0 – The Quips shut out Montour to put a stranglehold on the top of the Parkway Conference.
New Castle 22, Blackhawk 21 – After Blackhawk scored to go up 21-14, New Castle drove down the field and scored a touchdown with 39 seconds left. The Hurricanes went for two and converted to get the victory. That’s the second last-minute victory for New Castle this season.
3A Results
Allegheny Six Conference
North Catholic 35, Deer Lakes 0 – Deer Lakes did not win a game last season and was one of the best stories in the WPIAL, having won their first three conference games. But now the Lancers have dropped 2 in a row and will have to battle for their playoff lives. North Catholic sets up a date with Freeport with the conference title on the line.
East Allegheny 68, Derry 0 – East Allegheny keeps pace in the Allegheny Six playoff race. Derry’s season of struggles continues.
Freeport 42, Burrell 9 – The Yellow Jackets beat the arch rivals and will face North Catholic next week for the conference title.
Interstate Conference
Elizabeth Forward 35, Mt Pleasant 0 – The Warriors victory puts them alone atop the Interstate Conference.
South Allegheny 26, South Park 7 – South Allegheny keeps their playoff hopes alive with a win over South Park.
Brownsville forfeit to Southmoreland.
Northwest Six Conference
Central Valley 44, Ambridge 0
Avonworth 50, Hopewell 0 – Nate Harper threw just 5 passes and 3 of them went for TDs as the Lopes ran all over Hopewell to stay unbeaten in conference play, setting up a showdown with Central Valley for the conference title next week.
Keystone Oaks 56, Quaker Valley 20 – The Golden Eagles got their first win of conference play to put themselves back into the playoff conversation. Kevin Drew ran for 3 TDs for KO.
Non-Conference
Valley 23, Yough 6 – In non-conference action, Valley gets their second win of the season.

Allegheny Conference
Serra 62, Apollo-Ridge 20 – After having their game against Ligonier Valley cancelled last week, Serra made up for it by putting up 62 on Apollo-Ridge. Max Rocco threw SIX touchdown passes, with four going to Terrell Booth and two to Jayvon Holt.
Steel Valley 46, Shady Side Academy 0 – The Ironmen roll to a big victory and set up a showdown with Serra Catholic for the conference title.
Ligonier Valley 43, Summit Academy 14
Century Conference
Washington 55, Charleroi 0 – The Prexies clinch a playoff spot with their win and have their eyes set on the conference title.
Chartiers-Houston 13, McGuffey 7 – The Bucs defense was outstanding all night and shut down McGuffey’s offensive attack. The Highlanders were the defending conference champions and still have a date with Washington on the schedule.

Midwestern Conference
Riverside 19, Ellwood City 0 – Both teams came into the game winless, but in the RivEll Rivalry game records don’t matter. In the end, Ellwood City’s losing streak extends to 23 games.
Beaver Falls 41, Freedom 8 – Beaver Falls is back in rhythm after a slow start to the season.
Laurel 54, Mohawk 9 – Laurel is closing in on the Midwestern Conference title, needing just 1 win in their final two games to win a share of it, winning it outright with both. Mohawk has now dropped two in a row to Beaver Falls and Laurel and will have to battle for their playoff lives down the stretch.
Neshannock 40, New Brighton 27 – Neshannock and Laurel will face off in Week 9 with the conference title on the line. The Lancers got an early challenge from New Brighton but pulled away to stay towards the top of the Midwestern pack.

Big Seven Conference
Burgettstown 17, Northgate 14 – Burgettstown gets their first conference win of the season as Northgate loses another tight game. The Flames have battled their hearts out this season after entering the year with the WPIAL’s longest losing streak.
Cornell 14, Rochester 7 – Cornell got two touchdowns from Tim Henderson and put together an outstanding defensive performance. The Raiders and OLSH are on a collision course for the conference title in Week 9.
Fort Cherry 26, Union 14 – Fort Cherry gets a key victory in the Big Seven playoff race.
Eastern Conference
Clairton 20, GCC 13 – Clairton puts a stranglehold on the conference title thanks to another dominant performance by their defense.
Springdale 49, Imani 20 – The Dynamos get a big win to put themselves in position to get the last playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
Tri-County South Conference
Avella 30, Bentworth 21 – Avella breaks out of their funk and wins their first game of the season.
Carmichaels 35, California 20 – Carmichaels gets a big win and puts themselves in solid position for a second place finish and a shot at a home playoff game.
Mapletown 43, Jefferson-Morgan 12 – Mapletown has put themselves in position to make the playoffs for the first time since 2016.
West Greene 28, Monessen 14 – The Pioneers are a win away from the Tri-County South Conference title.
