Week 5 Fantasy Football – Trust or Bust?

by Chris Nicolaou

Trust or Bust is my brand new Fantasy Football segment. It is designed to give advice on who to play and who to keep on your bench for this week’s slate of games. This is a general piece of advice and it is not a definite figure. Everybody’s league and team is different and must be treated as such. Sometimes a ‘bust’ must be played because you have no other choice, or maybe you have a hunch. My best advice is to trust your gut. If there are any names not mentioned here, please contact me at @Cnic__ on twitter, I will be happy to give you personal, one-on-one advice as i do for many others. Also, if you have questions or disagreements about my placement of players unto either label, use the same method to contact me. I am human, most of the time, so I may have forgotten players; let me know if I have as well!

Trust

QB

Aaron Rodgers – Obvious but Dallas is 23rd against quarterbacks and Ty Montgomery is out.
DeShaun Watson – Yeah, I’m buying in. Watson is at home and now comfortable at the position.
Carson Wentz – Should have a good game. Cardinals are 20th against quarterbacks but also played Brian Hoyer and Scott Tolzien.
Dak Prescott – Prescott and Bryant should have a really good game. The Packers defense has trouble against the pass and it’s a home game.
Eli Manning – This is the game where Eli and the Giants come out full guns blazing.

RB

Le’Veon Bell – Play Bell no matter what, but what a glorious matchup.
Carlos Hyde – Finally healthy, the Colts run defense is their strength, but they still are giving up 26.1 FPPG against running backs, which is 22nd.
Isaiah Crowell – Crowell has been a disappointment, but he is my bold pick to break out against a bad Jets run defense.
Leonard Fournette – Always a starter, but the Steelers have had a tough time stopping the run.
Joe Mixon – I’m finally going to go on record in saying Mixon can be started. It’s bold, but im here for this,

WR

Jordy Nelson – Rodgers’ top target should have a great game against a pass defense who is 25th against wide receivers.
Larry Fitzgerald
– The volume and production are both present with Fitz. Philadelphia is absolutely terrible against wide receivers.
Stefon Diggs – The Bears won’t have an answer for Diggs, who leads the NFL in fantasy points.
DeVante Parker – The Titans are next to last against wide receivers and Parker is a high volume-big play guy.
Devin Funchess – With Kelvin Benjamin demanding Darius Slay’s attention, it should free up Funchess to be heavily productive again.

TE

Delanie Walker – Walker will be leaned on and is a high volume guy. The Dolphins are 23rd against tight ends.
Evan Engram – A consistent option in fantasy, Engram keeps producing.
Zach Ertz – An obvious play, but Ertz gets a ton of targets.
Austin Seferian-Jenkins – Not a flashy play, but ASJ can have a good day against a bad Browns defense.
Jared Cook – It doesn’t matter who is the quarterback, Cook should be leaned on a ton against a defense who is 28th against tight ends.

Bust

QB

Andy Dalton – The Bills have a really good defense and I can see Dalton throwing multiple interceptions.
Cam Newton – His favorite receiver is going to be shadowed and he’s coming off some bad PR.

RB

LeSean McCoy – The Bengals have been good against running backs and McCoy hasn’t been consistent.
Lamar Miller – I’m not a Miller fan, plus the Chiefs are 4th in the NFL against running backs.

WR

Kelvin Benjamin – He will be shadowed by Darius Slay. Will be tough sleddin’.
Alshon Jeffrey – Will be shadowed by Patrick Peterson, yikes.

TE

Eric Ebron – Has failed to be consistent and the Panthers are 5th in the NFL against tight ends.
Jason Witten – I don’t think the Cowboys will lean on Witten. The Packers are also 2nd in the NFL against tight ends.

Injury Report

QUESTIONABLE
Derek Carr – Questionable. I’m not convinced he plays.
Marcus Mariota – Questionable. Will likely play.
Sam Bradford – Questionable – Will likely play.
Wendell Smallwood – Questionable. I don’t think he plays, hasn’t practiced all week.
Davante Adams – Questionable. I don’t know how, but it is likely he plays.

DOUBTFUL
Ty Montgomery – Doubtful. Won’t play.

OUT
Jordan Mathews – Charles Clay stock up.
Tyler Eifert – Tyler Kroft stock up.
Matt Forte – Bilal Powell stock up.
Paul Perkins – Wayne Gallman stock up.
Kenny Golladay – Marvin Jones stock ip
Corey Davis – Rishard Mathews stock up.
