The Door is Wide Open for Big Ben to Return

by Steeldad

While it took some time, it certainly appears like the Pittsburgh Steelers and Ben Roethlisberger will be together for at least one more season. It certainly looks that way at least. Numerous outlets are stating what many have hoped for the last two months and if Gerry Dulac is saying it then it’s pretty close to gospel.

I’m the type that needs to hear it from the horse’s mouth and in this case I’ll take either Art Rooney II or Big Ben. Until that time, I’m going to view this as “likely” and that’s as far as I’m willing to go.

My assumption is that some of the financials have been agreed upon. There’s no way we could have gotten to this point without the two sides having come to some kind of agreement. There’s also no way that Dulac tweets what he did or that Ben’s agent Ryan Tolner says what he did without having found a financial middle ground.

With a cap hit of over $41 million, Big Ben was not going to play at that number and he knew it just as we all did. It isn’t fair to say “he’s made enough money in his career so he’ll play for whatever” as many fans have suggested. We can’t speak for him anymore than he could speak for us. And the NFLPA isn’t gonna to want him playing for peanuts either. Therefore the two sides have to have made an agreement.

I believe we’ll find out those details soon but it feels certain enough for me to say “the door is open for his return.” Going any further than that is reckless. All it takes is one side to not agree and we are right back at square one. I’m hopeful that he gets the type of farewell he deserves which means in front of fans and not empty seats.

Ben (not Anderson) February 25, 2021 - 9:33 am

Although it may be an unpopular opinion, I am not happy that Ben is gonna be back next season. The “Big Ben” of old is no longer on that field…it is just “Ben” now. I do NOT believe we will win another SB with Ben…his time has passed, and he needs to ride off into the sunset. He was a GREAT QB for many years, but he is just not good enough anymore. We all knew his time was coming, but apparently, HE missed the memo.

I am happy to know that Big Ben will be back next season. He still has some good games in him you can’t let the last 5 games of one season judge him forever. Next season might be his to get a third Super Bowl ring and then retire.
