Steelers Land 8 Players on the Super Bowl 50 Golden Team

Oh I suppose you could make arguments for more and you’d have a hard time arguing but the Pittsburgh Steelers still landed eight players on the NFL’s “Golden Team” as the leagues celebrates its’ 50th playing of the Super Bowl. The Steelers selected are in BOLD.

Here is the offense:

QB Joe Montana (SF), RBs Tony Dorsett (DAL), Franco Harris (PIT), WRs Lynn Swann (PIT), Jerry Rice (SF), TE Jay Novacek (DAL), OTs Art Shell (OAK), Forrest Gregg (GB), Gs Larry Allen (DAL), Gene Upshaw (OAK), C Mike Webster (PIT)

Here is the defense:

DEs Charles Haley (DAL/SF), Reggie White (GB), DTs Randy White (DAL), Mean Joe Greene (PIT), OLBs Lawrence Taylor (NYG), Jack Ham (PIT), ILBs Jack Lambert (PIT), Ray Lewis (BAL), CBs Deion Sanders (SF/DAL), Mel Blount (PIT), Ss Jake Scott (MIA), Ronnie Lott (SF)

Here are the specialists:

PK Adam Vinatieri (NE), P Ray Gay (OAK), K/PR Desmond Howard (GB)

Here is the Head Coach of the Golden Anniversary Team:

Chuck Noll (PIT)

Arguments to be made? Of course. These lists aren’t made just for our enjoyment, they’re made to create talking points and controversy. While no Steelers’ fan wants to hear it, Noll could have easily been replaced by Bill Belichick who also has four Super Bowl titles but naming Noll was the right move here.

As for each of the players it’s hard to argue with any of the selections. All seven Steelers’ players are deserving.
