SCB Steelers’ Quick Hitters: The “Will He or Won’t He” Edition

by Steeldad

Well thank God the bye week is over hey Steelers’ fans?

Sunday morning was quite busy for the “experts” around the NFL. Adam Schefter tweeted that Ben Roethlisberger was still “a couple of weeks away from playing.” Not long after, Jason LaCanfora tweeted that “Big Ben is on track to start Sunday in Baltimore.” Really easy to figure out right? Ben threw twice last week but his status will depend on whether or not he feels confident with his plant leg. If the knee feels good then he plays.

Panthers’ QB Cam Newton says he wants to speak with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell because he doesn’t feel safe on the field. There’s no question he has taken some shots this season but maybe Cam should look at Ben Roethlisberger who has been abused more than any QB of his generation.

Yesterday in the AFC North, Cleveland blew a double-digit lead and lost to the NY Jets. While in London, the Cincinnati Bengals tied, yes TIED, the Washington Redskins. The Browns fell to 0-8 with the loss while the Bengals dropped to 3-4-1. The moral of this story is that this division could not be any more set up for the Steelers to win it. They just cannot afford to lose in Baltimore Sunday.

Tweet of the Day… Good question by the former Steeler offensive lineman

Two ways to read Zach Mettenberger getting first team reps last week. 1. The Steelers want to see what he looks like with their best talent. 2. Roethlisberger really is a couple of weeks away and Mettenberger needs to be ready. I’m really, really hoping it’s reason number one.

We are still awaiting word on whether the Steelers will place Ladarius Green on the active roster. A move will need to be made before hand so stay tuned.

I’m also curious to see where running back Karlos Williams is in terms of his knowledge of the playbook and his conditioning. As long as DeAngelo Williams’ knee isn’t a huge problem Karlos will get all the time he needs to be ready.

Have a safe and happy halloween Steeler Nation!
