SCB Steelers’ Quick Hitters: The “Thinking a Lot of Ourselves” Edition

Good Monday to you Steelers’ Fans!

Late last week former Steelers’ Offensive Coordinator Todd Haley spoke for the first time about his tenure with the team. Maybe it’s just me but it sure sounds like the “Tequila Cowboy” is awfully full of himself.  Haley took quite a bit of credit for the development of Antonio Brown. “When I got there, Antonio Brown wasn’t the Antonio Brown everybody knows,” Haley said. “There was great development there.” Apparently Haley was there for all of Brown’s workouts and Receivers’ Coach Richard Mann had ZERO to do with his development. Haley went on to make similar statements about Le’Veon Bell as well. While some modicum of credit should be given to Haley, for him to act as if he developed these guys and others on the team is over the top in my opinion. But hey, if it works for Todd then so be it.

Very pleased to announce our newest contributor here at SCB. You may have seen Michael’s debut article earlier this past weekend and he’s been a longtime friend of mine and the site. Very glad to have his expertise and overall love of the Steelers with us.

We are two weeks away from the NFL Combine. I can’t believe it either but I’m excited for it. Football in pajamas is still football!

Tweet of the Day… I thought the same thing along with “Why is Arnold on the court?”

Over the last several years the discussion about whether or not the Steelers will move to the 4-3 typically starts ramping up this time of year. This is usually because it’s what Mike Tomlin was familiar with at both Tampa Bay and in Minnesota. But it also goes further than that too. All four teams in the AFC and NFC Playoffs run the 4-3 or a version of it and that leads any to believe it’s the way of the future right now. While the Steelers have not become a true ‘4-3′ defense there have been elements of it sprinkled in during the last few seasons. Here’s what you have to ask yourself… Do the Steelers have a true middle linebacker? Do they have guys that can play the strong and weakside linebacker spots? Who are your four down lineman and where do you align them? It’s not as easy as just saying “he goes there” and “he goes over there.” Being able to handle certain responsibilities and having knowledge of techniques is vitally important too. Am I completely ruling out a switch? No, not at all, but the personnel has to be there and willingness to switch has to be there as well.

I have no idea what Fergie was trying during the National Anthem during the NBA All-Star Game but it wasn’t working for me.

CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora said this week that he believes the Steelers will move on from William Gay this offseason. First, this is hardly a major prediction. Gay is clearly towards the end of his career and this could very well happen. Second, La Canfora is a Baltimore guy too so don’t be surprised if he’s just trying to stir the pot.

Have a great day Steeler Nation!
