SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The “Tag! You’re It!” Edition

by Steeldad

Good Monday to you Steelers’ fans.

On May 20th, FOX TV premiers a brand new show hosted by some guys whom I assume you are familiar. The playground and backyard game ‘Tag’ comes to television and is hosted by The Watt Brothers, J.J., T.J. and Derek. The latter two are of course Steelers while J.J. continues to make his home in Houston. Based on what I’ve seen and read, this will be ‘tag’ on steroids. My curiosity is much more targeted at watching the dynamic between the Watt’s than it is the actual event itself. I’m not going to lie, it doesn’t look all that entertaining. Perhaps my somewhat negative approach is based on recent television events that have featured Steelers. Both Hines Ward and Antonio Brown took nabbed a ‘coveted spot’ on ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars.” I fully admit I watched both of those programs when they were on it but as I look back now, especially in Brown’s case, I cringe a bit. Perhaps that was the start of Brown’s issues? Maybe it was simply one of many things that led to his ultimately being traded away by the Steelers? I’m not suggesting the same fate awaits T.J. or Derek but I get worried – I really do – as the fame (especially for T.J.) grows. I have every reason to believe he’s a grounded and well-rounded individual but that doesn’t mean I don’t get concerned. Will I check out this newest version of “Tag” when it debuts next week? Probably, but I have to say I’m much more interested in seeing these guys competing on the football field than I am watching them hold microphones.

Tweet of the Day… This is an excellent point. Politics has invaded all facets of our lives now. Believe it or not kids, there was a time when ESPN was nothing but sports and entertainment. Now everyone has to have a hot political take.

One Particular Plan…

I saw this over the past weekend. There are many that believe the National Football League will actually begin its’ season on time with all week one games being completed. At that point, the NFL would re-assess and see where things are in regards to playing games and the Covid-19 crisis. If this is accurate then I wonder what this means for preseason games. There are four (five if you count the Hall of Fame Game) weeks of preseason games and right now I’m guessing those aren’t played with fans in the stands. As I’ve said and will state many more times in this space, the entire pandemic is a fluid situation. Despite states re-opening, the numbers have once again risen in several states. Therefore, there’s no way any of us can see what is coming over the next few months.

Speaking of Watt…

Derek Watt has been a bit of an after-thought since signing with the Steelers back in the free agency period’s early days. With the Franchise Tag situation of Bud Dupree, the return of Ben Roethlisberger and the Draft, Watt has just become “another guy.” But as I sit and ponder on this May day, I think he’s going to end up being one of the more important pieces to this team and I don’t just mean on Special Teams. Both his running and receiving skills are upgrades over Roosevelt Nix and I think Randy Fichtner and his staff will find creative ways to use him. It’s definitely one of the more intriguing things I’m looking forward to in the fall.

Have a great Monday Steeler Nation!
