SCB Steelers’ Quick Hitters: The “Smokescreen” Edition

Good Monday to you Steelers’ Fans and welcome to another week!

Every team puts out information that is either true or very, very false as the NFL Draft approaches. While the ‘true’ information is seldom heard the false type is quite prominent. So that brings me to the Steelers who have honestly said very little in regards to the Draft and even less that could be deemed a “smokescreen.” The one name that has become the most often discussed among the Steelers’ blogosphere has been Mason Rudolph. He’s the big quarterback from Oklahoma State. You can read my Draft Profile of him here but this is where I am on the drafting of Rudolph by the Steelers….

First of all, I firmly believe he will go within the first 60 picks. That means the Steelers would have to use a first or second round selection on him. In order for this to happen it would mean that Ben Roethlisberger’s claim that he wants to play three more years is either not true or the Steelers do not think he plays that long. The Black and Gold have needs. Needs that are far beyond the position of quarterback. As stunned and upset that I was when both Landry Jones and Josh Dobbs were taken with mid round picks when there were far greater needs is nothing compared to my feelings should they select a QB with one of their first two picks. If you clicked the link and read my profile you’ll see what concerns I have with Rudolph.

Tweet of the Day… DWill is a bit of a wrestling fan if you didn’t know.

Do I think the Steelers will draft TWO inside linebackers? No, but would I be surprised if they did? No.

It is April FREAKING 9th and it is still snowing. We’re gonna have words Mother Nature.

I understand the comments of Steelers’ All-Pro guard David DeCastro as well as anyone. He was not shy about the new “leading with the crown of your helmet” penalty. He suggested that “we might as well be sumo wrestling because it will all be belly to belly now.” I get what he’s saying but I don’t see that happening. This rule, to my knowledge anyway, does not impact the offensive and defensive lines at the snap of the ball. Think about it. They already line these guys up a yard across from each other so how wouldn’t they smack each other helmet to helmet at times? The bigger motivation behind the rule is offensive ball carriers and/or defenders using their helmet as a weapon. If what DDC is saying rings true? Then it may indeed be time to get out the belts with flags on them.
