SCB Steelers’ Quick Hitters: The “Skipping Along” Edition

Good Wednesday to you Steelers’ Fans!

Like everything else in life, there’s an opinion for everything. Some believe that it’s wrong for Ben Roethlisberger and Antonio Brown (and to an extent Le’Veon Bell) to skip OTAs. They cite the need for leadership and the simple fact that all healthy players should be involved. Then there are those who don’t find their absences to be a big deal. This side argues the injury possibility which is understandable considering the team has already lost two guys to season-ending injuries and that “having the whole team together” is overrated. What I can tell you first of all is that all three guys aren’t exactly laying on a beach at a resort. I have it on good authority that all three are putting in plenty of time to prepare for the season but they are doing so in order to work on individual things. As an ‘old school’ thinker, I’d like for the whole team to be present but that isn’t how pro sports works any longer. Specialized coaching and technique work this time of year happen for many players. If this was happening during Training Camp? Then we’d have some much larger issues. For now, I’m not concerned.

There’s no question that if any guy has pressure on him to perform in 2018 it’s Bud Dupree and it sounds like he knows it. He told reporters yesterday that he knows he hasn’t “reached the ceiling yet” and that’s probably putting it mildly. Dupree’s biggest issue in my view is that he disappears far too often in big moments. We need to see him make a big play in crunch time. A strip sack, a batted ball… something. His play just has to get better plain and simple.

Tweet of the Day… It’s getting closer….

According to the Steelers, Ryan Shazier will hold his first mass press conference today at 12:30pm ET. As you know, the Steelers have worked hard with Shazier to keep him as much a part of the team as possible with him already being ruled out for 2018. We’ll have a full recap later.

If your a futbol fan then you’ll love Ian’s World Cup Previews. He and I will be doing a special World Cup podcast with our expert (my son) telling you everything you need to know about the month-long event!

How strange is it that former Steeler J.J. Wilcox has a job and guys like Mike Mitchell, Eric Reid and Kenny Vaccaro do not. Wilcox signed with the Jets after leaving the 49ers’ offices to do so.

Have a great day Steeler Nation!
