SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The “Shorthanded” Edition

by Steeldad

Good Tuesday to you Steelers fans.

Less than 24 hours ago we were hit with the news that the Baltimore Ravens were forced to shut down their facilities due to positive Covid-19 tests. This is bad news. This is worse news on a short week. In the hours that followed we learned that both Mark Ingram and J.K. Dobbins had tested positive and they will not be able to play Thursday night. Just as importantly (if not moreso in some eyes) Nose Tackle Brandon Williams is unable to play due to being on the close contact list. This is similar to where Ben Roethlisberger found himself prior to the Cincinnati game. In his case, there was enough time for him to get those necessary five days of negative tests. For Williams, the timing sucks. As a Steelers’ fan I’m supposed to be excited that we don’t have to deal with these three important players. In reality though, I’m really not. Although I still expect a close, competitive game, I want to see us play the Ravens at their best and we aren’t going to get that. As I said however, I full expect the shorthanded Ravens to pull out all the stops in an effort to get themselves back into the playoff hunt.

The Podcast

We recorded episode 197 of the Steel City Blitz Steelers Podcast presented by DEK Roofing Inc last evening. With Ian unable to join us we called on our top reserve and fellow featured player Ellie Finnerty who provided her thoughts on the Steelers’ win in Jacksonville. We also looked ahead to the Turkey Night showdown with Baltimore and much more!

Tweet of the Day… Yep.

Steelers History

Gordon looks back on a classic Monday Night Game in Pittsburgh between the Steelers and Ravens. Little did we know back in 2005 that our season would end in “one for the thumb.” This game against Baltimore was not expected to be close but in the end it couldn’t have been closer.

On the Injury Front

(Keep in mind this was a projection as the Steelers didn’t practice on Monday)

QB Ben Roethlisberger (NIR) – DNP
WR JuJu Smith-Schuster (Foot) – DNP
CB Joe Haden (Knee) – DNP
RB Trey Edmunds (Hamstring) – DNP
RB Jaylen Samuels (Quadriceps) – DNP
LB Jayrone Elliott (Illness) – DNP
C Maurkice Pouncey (NIR) – DNP
G David DeCastro (NIR) – DNP
T Alejandro Villanueva (NIR) – DNP
TE Zach Gentry (Knee) – DNP
TE Eric Ebron (NIR) – DNP
DE Stephon Tuitt (NIR) – DNP
DE Tyson Alualu (NIR) – DNP

RAVENS

DE Calais Campbell (Calf) – DNP
CB Jimmy Smith (Ankle) – DNP
TE Mark Andrews (Thigh) – Limited
OLB Matthew Judon (Ankle) – Limited
G Tyre Phillips (Ankle) – Limited

Injury Thoughts… The Steelers believe Zach Gentry’s knee injury is serious and expect to be without him for some time. Look for a roster move as soon as today. There are currently two tight ends on the practice squad. Kevin Rader and Charles Jones… Vance McDonald is expected off the Covid-19 list today as well… I’ll be curious as to what the Steelers can get from JuJu. He was clearly not 100% at the end of the game Sunday.
