Good Wednesday to you Steelers fans.
There’s something that needs to be clarified within our Steelers Nation. I don’t know if people are truly as misled as it appears or if they are just posting to social media in order to garner attention. Either is extremely possible. Regardless, you need to know that this idea that the Steelers would not have drafted Kenny Pickett had Dwayne Haskins not died is 100% false. What you have to understand is that Haskins was in Pittsburgh on the most basic, team friendly contract a team can offer. Haskins’ career was in limbo and the Steelers threw him a life line. As for the player, Haskins had some decent moments in preseason action last year but as soon as he played against starters (vs Carolina) his good play came to a halt. In other words, for those of you who truly believe he was in the mix to be the starter this year, I’m sorry, but it wasn’t happening. Haskins’ tragic death created a narrative that “suddenly” the Steelers needed to draft a QB. Let me be clear; the Steelers were targeting QBs in the draft period. Kenny Pickett’s drafting was going to happen regardless of Haskins. Some of you won’t want to hear this or believe this. You saw what Haskins was capable of at Ohio State and you firmly believed he would rekindle that magic. I totally agree that this would have been ideal for any number of reasons but it just never came to fruition. You could also argue that if the Steelers were so keen on Haskins that they shouldn’t have signed Mitchell Trubisky but there’s no need to go there. Haskins was a talented young man but we need to stop this narrative about not drafting a QB. It’s just not correct.

One Week to Go
Seven days from today the Black and Gold Faithful will return to St. Vincent College in Latrobe. For the first time since the pandemic, the team and the fans will gather at the venerable venue for football, photos and autographs and I’m sure much more. If you’ve never been, at some point you should make an effort to get there. You’ll never get a chance to get this close to the players and coaches and it’s just a great experience period for any fan.
8 Weeks?
Several reports are suggesting that Deshaun Watson will receive an eight-game suspension from the NFL. If accurate, I expect women, who make up 40% of the NFL fan base, to be less than thrilled and I also expect people in general to be pretty pissed off. When you have Calvin Ridley suspended for a full season for a bet and Watson would get eight games for literally being a predator? That won’t sit well.
