Good Monday to You Steelers’ Fans!
I’ve survived another weekend of soccer tournament madness with my son so sitting back down at the keyboard is actually quite refreshing… The Steelers’ rookies were at their first mini-camp this past weekend and the first thing I’ll tell you is to take everything you’ve heard with a grain of salt. Their have been superlatives a-plenty about any number of these young men and that’s all fine and good but this is largely an instructional period. Do they get to show their talents? Of course they do, but this is just a short camp. When the full-team mandatory mini-camp comes around then we can start to make some assumptions but until then? Let’s just take it easy on calling anyone “the next great Steeler.”
Much of the talk was Mason Rudolph and the fact he received a “good luck” text from Ben Roethlisbeger. Amazing how people slurp this stuff up… Nevertheless, he showed some solid throws and looked more than competent. His issues as I’ve stated since day one are those deep sideline routes which are staples in the NFL. The timing of the throw isn’t always there and that’s easy pickings for DBs.
There’s very little you can pick up from a few days in shirts and shorts but Terrell Edmunds is clearly a versatile guy. And I think this is exactly why the Steelers drafted him. He showed off excellent burst, speed and ability to change direction. Again, very early in the process but arrow up.
Second rounder James Washington signed his contract this weekend leaving Rudolph, Terrell Edmunds and Chuks Okorafor unsigned.

Pitt fans are very excited over the possibility of Quadree Henderson making the Steelers’ roster. The reality is that his chances are extremely slim. He’ll need to become a special teams’ player (return man especially) and be able to prove he can consistently catch the ball and block as well. Great story for sure but his chances are slim.
Former NFL Coach Chuck Knox died at 86 this weekend. He was a head coach with the Buffalo Bills, Seattle Seahawks and Los Angeles Rams (twice). He was from the Pittsburgh suburb of Sewickley.
