SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The “Ratings Debate” Edition

by Steeldad

Good Tuesday to you Steelers’ fans.

Like you, I’ve been waiting with baited breath for the 2020 Madden Ratings to come out. OK that’s a bit of a stretch but for you gamers the ratings are out and oh boy!! Let the debates begin!! Or actually, let’s not. Perhaps this is a result of the current pandemic in which our coverage of the Pittsburgh Steelers and sports in general is limited. We naturally look for other things to fill the void. I get it – video games are an important part of our daily lives now – but to see people get upset over a player’s rating is a bit troubling. So T.J. Watt isn’t rated as high as you thought he should be. This does not constitute an “emergency” and does not require a 1,000 word Facebook post. Saquan Barkley took to Twitter yesterday after his rating was deemed “too low” by most. He’s using the slight as motivation.

I admit that I have wondered if I had been as miffed as some had social media existed when I was younger but who knows? With Madden quite possibly being the only the football we have this fall perhaps I should pay more attention. Then again, I’ll just trade Dan McCullers for three first rounders and everything will be just fine.

Tweet of the Day… This is Coach Tomlin’s son Dino. A classic case of what I’m talking about. And I GUARANTEE he’ll still play!

Cam Deal in Doubt?

ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that fewer long-term deals are getting done due to the Covid-19 pandemic. What does this mean for Cam Heyward? The Steelers’ stalwart is entering the final year of his current contract and I know we all believe he should remain in Pittsburgh. I remain hopeful the two sides can still get something done. The Steelers have a long-standing policy of not negotiating during the season so they’ll need to hammer something out before week one. The bigger question is what happens if the season gets cancelled. How will things like this work out? As always, stay tuned.

Our Training Camp Previews

I started rolling out our position previews for Steelers Training Camp 2020 last week. Tight ends and quarterbacks are done and more are on the way. Check them out!

The Power of Money

Washington owner Daniel Snyder once emphatically stated, “I will NEVER change the Redskins’ name.” He said this in resistance to social pressure to change. So why change now? M-O-N-E-Y. That’s why. When FedEx and Nike started squawking that was the beginning of the end. Nike, Amazon among others were pulling Redskins’ merchandise from their shelves. That is the ONLY reason this change is happening whether we believe it or not.

Our Stuff

If you’d like to get some of our stuff you can visit DC4L for tees and hoodies and RedBubble for decals, stickers and even masks!!
