SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The “Moving On” Edition

Good Monday to you Steelers fans.

Friday saw the end of an era in the Steel City as one of the more polarizing players in team history headed off to ‘greener’ pastures in Kansas City. JuJu Smith-Schuster is no longer a Steeler and much like his entire time in Pittsburgh, the reception has been varied from one extreme to the other. JuJu rubbed many fans the wrong way. His massive following on social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram were to many, their reason why today’s generation of athlete is unlikable. But for that same reason is why so many fansĀ didĀ like him. Younger fans found common ground with him and many fans found no issue with his “logo stomping” and constant video-taking. Allow me to give you my take here. Would I have preferred that JuJu not be on social media and so on? Yeah, admittedly I would have been better with this. But there are few players on this team the last four seasons who played as hard as he did. There are few that were willing to give of themselves the way he did. And there are few who produced the way he did (when Big Ben was his QB especially). Ultimately, fans are going to have to come to grips with the fact that today’s players are different than the ones they grew up with. My expectations are simple. Play your ass off on the field. Don’t be in trouble off of it. JuJu did those things and I wish him well. Although I will say this… He said this week upon his arrival to Kansas City that he was “focused on winning and was done doing TikToks.” If that’s true, why wasn’t the same attitude applied here? Seems a little odd to me.

Tweet of the Day… A very big week indeed for the future (potential) of the QB position in Pittsburgh.

Visits

If you take a look at that list above we already know both Mike Tomlin and Kevin Colbert will be at the Pitt Pro Day. I’m guessing we will have a scout watching Carson Strong at his Pro Day but his complete lack of mobility should get him crossed off the Steelers’ board immediately. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday will be REALLY intriguing. If you take the Senior Bowl into account, then Tomlin loves Malik Willis and will no doubt be at his Pro Day. If Colbert is not there? That’s a huge red flag for me. The same can also be said for Matt Corral and Desmond Ridder. If both are there then both are in play, if not, then the questions will be plenty.

Bush Push

There will be and already have been many articles published about Devin Bush since the season ended. Then there were more when Brian Flores was hired to coach the linebackers. None of us… Not ONE! Can tell you about how Devin Bush is going to play in 2022. Is it fair to expect that he plays better? Of course! He can’t play much worse. Is it fair to suggest that Flores’ presence will help him? Absolutely! Will Myles Jack next to him help? I should certainly think so. All those things said however, this is still all about Bush himself. He’s the one that has to return to form and that’s on him. So before I make any predictions, that’s my biggest concern.
