SCB Steelers’ Quick Hitters: The “Mike, It’s Been So Long” Edition

Good Tuesday to you Steelers’ Fans!

It’s only a week but the bye week throws me off something crazy. It almost feels like Steelers’ Head Coach Mike Tomlin has been absent for months! Regardless, he’ll take to the podium today for his first press conference in two weeks and I’ve never missed his cliches so much! Actually, I expect him as usual to hype the Indianapolis Colts but I think  it may be warranted. Jacoby Brissett is no Andrew Luck but he can’t be overlooked. We’ve seen how the Steelers have struggled against backups in the past and this could be no different.

If you can explain the NFL’s procedures for dealing player behavior on the field then please let me know your secret. How in the wide world of sports does A.J. Green NOT get suspended for his haymakers and sleeper hold on Jalen Ramsey? Mike Evans has been suspended for his blindside shot on the defensive back from the Saints but nothing for Green? Perhaps the NFL should stop tolerating this behavior period but that’s a pipe dream.

Call me ridiculously optimistic but I think Ben Roethlisberger has a very nice second half of the season. I don’t expect six touchdown passes per game but I think his completion percentage will start creeping back up to more normal levels. I say this because I know he and Todd Haley spent some time together over the bye week. Based on what I was seeing through the first eight games I think both guys needed to get on the same page.

Tweet of the Day… And we couldn’t be happier.

Ron Cook of the Post-Gazette has a piece about Roger Goodell losing his job over the national anthem flap. I think Cook is on to something but I think if he does in fact lose his job, it will be as much about falling revenue and player discipline inconsistency as anything surrounding the anthem.

I think Sean Davis was really coming on towards the bye week and I expect that to continue. He started slowly this season and I really can’t tell you why but his play has picked up to the point where he’s around the ball a lot more now.

The Lions whipped the Packers in Green Bay last night. Why does that matter? Because I think it proves just how good the Steelers’ defense was in the red zone last week. That’s something to keep in mind over the course of this season.

Have a terrific day Steeler Nation!
