SCB Steelers’ Quick Hitters: The “Is That Really News?” Edition

Good Tuesday wherever you are Steelers’ Fans!

We all change over time and I suppose my approach at times has too when it comes to what we here at SCB believe is newsworthy. I’d rather give you less content and more quality but certainly there are times when we stretch that. One thing that was so stinking obvious to me was that Le’Veon Bell would not be attending OTAs which ramp back up today in Pittsburgh. Considering that every single thing that he did last year while facing the Franchise Tag would be repeated again this year seemed as guaranteed as the Browns having a losing record. But yet… There were all kinds of news stories and even ESPN BottomLine entries telling us that Bell was not reporting for OTAs. On one hand, I understand that there is a duty to report news no matter how useless or given the story already is but did we really need to know that Bell wouldn’t be there? I’m of the opinion that one of the reasons it does make the news is to stir up controversy.  It gets people talking again especially on social media and brings back all of the debates and ill-will about Bell and his demands. So ya, I get it but that doesn’t make it any easier for me to tolerate.

Aside from Bell, the biggest story early on in OTAs will be whether or not Ben Roethlisberger speaks to Mason Rudolph. I would actually pay just to watch the beat writers stumble over themselves to try and analyze that encounter. This is how pathetic we’ve gotten in the sports’ world people.

Tweet of the Day… DWill getting his ‘Star Wars’ on.

From Ray Fittapaldo’s chat at post-gazette.com. (Sound familiar)

Earnest Jackson: Ray, what are you most looking forward to in OTA’s?
Ray Fittipaldo: Lots of stuff… How Rudolph and Ben interact… What is the defensive alignment and personnel, especially in the secondary (base and sub-packages). Where will the safeties line up, etc… Will James Washington have some immediate chemistry with Ben???… Those are a few off the top of my head.

I really like Ray and think he does a good job but is this really the biggest thing he’s looking forward to?  I swear it’s like high school for some of these guys.

One of the quieter stories of the offseason has been James Conner. I’m very curious to see where he is in terms of his recovery from his late season knee injury. The Steelers used a high draft pick on him last year and they really need him to make this roster but he’s going to have some good competition from Stevan Ridley and company.

Have a great day Steeler Nation!
