SCB Steelers’ Quick Hitters: The “Holding Down Fort” Edition

Happy Hump Day Steeler Nation!

If you noticed the wording of the Steelers’ press release about L.J. Fort then you should have seen something a bit unusual. The release, which announced the re-signing of Steven Johnson, also mentioned the “termination” of Fort’s contract. A termination usually means the player has done something to deserve being booted. I’m told Fort was upset about not playing on defense more (he claims he was promised to play ahead of others) and he boisterously made his feelings known. This apparently wasn’t well received by Mike Tomlin and I think that’s the last you’ll see of Fort.

The shame of this is that I really thought Fort had played well. He deserved an opportunity but I’m not the coach and clearly there was an issue here.

Mike Tomlin wasn’t playing around yesterday in his weekly press conference when asked about Le’Veon Bell. His tone and overall demeanor told me he’s sick and tired of it and I’m willing to bet its a feeling he’s had since the middle of Training Camp.

Tomlin also mentioned that Stephon Tuitt “could” play this week but I’m guessing right now he won’t. With the good news that his injury wasn’t season-ending I think the Steelers still need to be careful with that arm going forward.

Tweet of the Day… Juice was serving up Blizzards!

We at SCB are still bewildered by the ‘chop block’ penalty called on Le’Veon Bell Sunday. I wish I knew what in the world the official saw.

I agree 100% with Mike Tomlin as to why he was so upset about the personal foul called against William Gay. That had to have been one of the latest flags I’ve ever seen and Tomlin is convinced they threw the flag only after seeing the hit replayed on the jumbotron. That is a huge problem in my opinion. Officials cannot make calls once they’ve seen it in slow motion like this. If this were the case, why wouldn’t they just look at the big screen after every play? Tomlin has every right to be irritated by that call.

Tomlin also made a valid point about how the penalties often killed the offense’s drives more than anything Cleveland did but that doesn’t take away from some of the horrendous play-calling and poor execution. That won’t fly against a much better Minnesota team this week.

Have a great Wednesday Steeler Nation!
