SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The “Hall in Question for Troy?” Edition

by Steeldad

Good Wednesday to you Steelers’ fans.

In Ed Bouchette’s weekly chat over at theatlantic.com, Uncle Ed divulged that some Hall of Fame voters have told him that they do not believe Troy Polamalu to be a Hall of Famer. Rather than get upset about this let me look at it as open-minded as I can. Does Polamalu often get thought of as a HoFer because of the way he played? Were his flowing locks of black hair part of his persona that didn’t have anything to do with his play on the field? Did he only have a handful of great plays and not have the consistency voters are looking for? Ya I know what you’re thinking. The idea that Polamalu isn’t a Hall of Famer is ridiculous. Anyone that thinks he isn’t doesn’t understand the game or just flat-out has a bias against the Steelers. Too often people look at stats and use those as the entire barometer for how they judge players. I would offer up this; how many players in recent history did teams have to account for on every single play the way they did with 43? It’s not many and that fact alone is enough to get him into the Hall. This “I’m not voting for him” nonsense needs to stop.

Dupree

The Steelers have seen this movie before. It’s the one where two outside backers have big years, one leaves and the other’s production drops. I think that’s a big part of the motivation for both Art Rooney II and Mike Tomlin saying that keeping Bud Dupree is a top offseason priority. As I’ve said since the season ended, I don’t see it happening at this time simply because of the financials but with Dupree claiming that he’d play under the franchise tag that may change things for the better.

Tweet of the Day… Seems appropriate.

Madden!

Like many of you I grew up playing Tecmo Bowl (still the greatest game ever) and eventually Madden. I got away from playing Madden several years ago but with my teenage son playing it I thought it give it a shot again. I set up a Steelers (of course!) franchise and have already noticed two things. First, James Conner is really good but he gets hurt a lot. Strange huh??? Secondly, the Los Angeles Chargers became the Toronto Thunderbirds. I thought that was pretty intriguing….

O-Line

I had a feeling the Steelers would stick with Offensive Line Coach Shaun Sarrett despite the unit’s poor showing in 2019. I think Tomlin feels that the O-Line suffered just like the entire offense simply because of quarterback play. If that’s accurate then I’ll give Sarrett a pass but I need to see some improvement in 2020 I know that for sure.

Have a great day Steeler Nation!
